The First of Many

February 10, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Blogging, Minnesota Me 13 Comments

The bride;

The groom;

And the lyrics to our first dance.

Go Light Your World

by Kathy Troccoli

There is a candle in every soul
Some brightly burning,
Some dark and cold
There is a spirit who brings the fire
Ignites his candle and makes his home

Carry your candle,
Run to the darkness
Seek out the hopeless, confused and torn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle and go light your world

Frustrated brothers,
see how he’s tried to
Light his own candle some other way
See now our sister,
She’s been robbed and lied to
Still holds a candle without a flame

So carry your candle,
run to the darkness
Seek out the lonely,
the tired and worn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle and
go light your world

We are a family whose hearts are blazing
We raise our candles and light up the sky
Praying to our Father, “In the name of Jesus
Make us a beacon in darkest times!”

Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the helpless, deceived and poor
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle and go light your world.

Ed. note: This song is available for a mere $0.99 at i-Tunes. And for the record, I still get a lump in my throat when I hear it….eleven years later.

    Hi Margaret,
I have a different memory with that song. I had to drive down to southern Indiana last December to attend the funeral of a friend (my age – 25 or so) who had died in a car accident on her way home from a family Christmas party. That song came on my ipod in the car – the Chris Rice version – and I thought about how she lived that song. Now it always makes me think of her and smile šŸ˜‰

Beth: you had no sooner left your comment that I went to iTunes and purchased the version you spoke of.

    I love Chris Rice.

I, too, have a second memory associated with this song. A half a year after my husband & I were married, I was teaching Religion at a local high school and one of my dear Seniors took his life.

I set a lit candle on his empty desk and played this song…

How timely this post is! I was just thinking of this song because a guest speaker came to our MOMS group at church and we darkened the room and all held out candles and sang it together. It was beautiful. I couldn’t remember the exact title or lyrics and therefore couldn’t search for it. But, wonder no longer! Yee haw!
Thanks. And cute photo. I love weddings second to baby news. šŸ™‚

This is one of my all time favorites!! I have the whole tape memorized!! I used to play this song for youth and Confirmation groups about 10-11 years ago, I would always hand out the lyrics!

I have not heard the Chris Rice version, I will have to seek it out! Love the photo Margaret, thanks for sharing your memories! (and a favorite song)

Now it will be in my head on the way to Mass! šŸ™‚

I forgot to mention that Kathy Troccoli was our special tape that my son (now almost 7) would fall asleep to. He would cry in the car until he would hear her and fall asleep, many a night I would pace the floor with him, dancing to her music! Such good memories, thanks Margaret! I will have to take her music out today!
