Maybe three.
First, NiNi got a new hat for Christmas. A homemade hat, hand-knit by his godmother, and I think it is very cute.
One day I will learn to knit.
I will sit down with my friend (aka George’s godmother) and have her show me how to knit. Then I will make wonky hats for her to wear, and she will be grieved that she agreed to teach me.
Maybe I’ll stick to taking pictures.
The second thing is, I thought I would take a break this week–thought I would give you a break from me. Sometimes I wonder, “Do people really need one more thing to read?” I wonder…and I worry…and I wonder…and I worry…and that old icky devil has a heyday with me.
Meanwhile, I tried to content myself with being an observer, (no small task what with the news these days) and with keeping my nose to the grindstone domestically.
What could I say? My son was right.
Today’s grindstone included roasted brussels sprouts. I followed Ina Garten’s recipe and they are addicting, like potato chips.
Especially the outer leaves that fall off and get crispy.
ADDICTING!
The third thing is…well, there is no third thing after all. I’ve changed my mind about this long last paragraph.
No drama. No rama.
(I write, I think , because he’s worth it.)

I LOVE roasted Brussels sprouts! I usually take off a lot of the leaves so that there are more crispy crunchies!!

I very recently fell in love with brussels sprouts myself — can you believe I never in my whole life had them until a month ago? Amazing.
Trust me, people come to read your blog because they like you and enjoy your blogging style. You're not just one more thing to read.

NiNi is looking like a big boy. He's looking like his biggest brother. I don't know what to say. How could he grow up like that?

I missed you. I really did. I thought about you yesterday. 'Why is Margaret so quiet?' Glad to hear from you.

I missed you too. There is such a spirit of loveliness here; you are such an inspiration to me in your honest and normal goodness, and you always make me smile. So shoo away that old man devil and let your spirit shine.

It's not one more thing to read. If I didn't read here I'd just read somewhere else and it may not be as positive. So keep posting and keep giving me a positive alternative to the drivel I'd be reading otherwise.

Plus, I LOVE roasted Brussels sprouts. I usually cut them in half, so more leaves fall off and get toasty. Yum.

I love roasted brussels sprouts AND the fact that someone's hair is getting long again! he's such a doll.

I am in love with roasted veggies but I've never eaten these. They are really that good? Are they as delicious as that little boy's eyes are?

Oh.So.Good! I love Ina's recipe for Roasted Brussel Sprouts. However, I was the only one here who loved them…but that meant more for me!!!
Missed you. Glad you're back.

Ooo! I love brussels sprouts! I'm definitely going to try that. I bet it's similar to the kale chips and my entire family flipped for those. I've been fairly quiet on my blog and around the blogosphere, but I really do need to keep my trap shut other places. It's not easy, like you said. All these recent events in the news have me turned inside out. Thank goodness for tawny port and Downton Abbey. 😉
p.s. Kiss that scrumptious boy for me. Those eyes just melt me.

Good to hear from you! I, too, was wonderin' how yer doin.
I just made those Brussel sprouts this week for the first time. So! Good! You should have seen Lydia and I standing in the kitchen munching on the cold leftovers together the next day right out of the oven where I'd left them (with extra salt of course).
Of course that boy would be even better to eat, but I don't live in Minnesota!

Missed you and your crew!!!

i've never had brussels sprouts. they have a bad rap and i'm kinda scared to try them.
and that little boy is just so adorable! what happened to his arm in that last picture?
and i agree with everyone else – keep writing! i love reading your blog posts!

That's purple do-a-dots marker, Tina. Looks a major bruise, doesn't it?!

For some reason, I was thinking you were in Fargo….I was thinking about you last night and thinking "well…she should be back tomorrow and blogging Monday"
I missed you.
You are not just one more thing to read….those "Daybook" posts are…sorry hope I didn't offend anyone with that one, but really? who cares what people are wearing?
Only had brussel sprouts once and they were awful…thinking my mom made them wrong or something because so many people like them and I usually love veggies alot!
NiNi is adorable. I'm sure he's ready for the big game and are those brussels for the game too? Healthy choice!!!! You go girl!

I don't enjoy breaks from you. I've cut back on the number of blogs that I read faithfully, but yours is at the top of the list of the few that I still check daily. And I definitely want to roast brussel sprouts now. I've recently roasted broccoli and cauliflower and my husband and I loved them, but the kids, not so much. That won't stop me from doing it again though.
Ebeth says
Love your picts and the brussel sprouts,I watch Ina make them and they definitely look good!
Sarah says
Never been a fan of brussels sprouts, but that may just be because my mother cooked them by boiling them, which gave the whole house a lovely sewer-ish aroma. Might be time to try these myself – thanks for linking to the recipe!

Margaret,
I missed you too! I really did keep checking in, and hoping you were doing fun family things (and not dealing with illness or something).
I hope it's encouraging to know that we missed you and don't need a break from you (and NOT creepy that we wonder if you're away or sick or something)!
I'm with Theresa, I cut my brussell sprouts in half when I make them too for extra roasty goodness. I like them pretty simply — olive oil and a little kosher salt.
I'm with Gail too on the roasted cauliflower. I haven't tried to roast broccoli yet, but I will. We just gobble up roasted cauliflower! I also love other veggies roasted — sweet potatoes (which I don't like any other way), rutabagas (sometimes called wax turnips), carrots — it's a wonderful way to dress up winter veggies.
Anyway, NiNi is adorable and I'm glad you're well!

I've been checking in on you. I love to read what you're thinking about. I heard your talk at the MN Catholic Home School Conference a few years ago and really got a lot from you. I appreciate how you share your heart. Blessings and peace to you.
