Leap Day Loveliness

Leap Day 2016

True story: I was going to call this post “Leap Day Lunacy” but figured that title would scare you off.

I’m all about being encouraging, you know? Because the truth is, we are crazy.

Why else would we get a puppy when…

We already have a houseful of crazies, including (but not limited to) a six-year-old who’s losing his teeth right & left:

Toothless Wonder

A 3-year-old who answers the door wearing only a diaper and red marker:

Diapered Wonder

And various other crazies that generally do their best to keep me annoyed hopping.

P Bomb II

P Bomb IV

Oh and hey, let’s not forget the Sisyphean task that is cleaning our classroom:

Classroom I Classroom II

True story: We have no business getting a puppy, but having lost our beloved Ellie six years ago…

Our Beloved Ellie

Bringing home Baby Jax was the very best thing we could do.

Now then! I shall reward your perseverance in reading this post to the end. Today is Leap Day, as you probably know, and this day comes but once every four years. That’s it! That meant finally opening our 2012 time capsule:

Leap Day Lovely

And oh my goodness, was it ever sweet.

I clearly remember having the kids write letters, and I clearly remember losing my older boys’ notes along the way.  (Darn messy classroom! What’s an overwhelmed mom to do?) The good news is, neither boy really cares, and the even better news is: It goes so fast.

Wait, what? That’s the kinda sad news, actually.

My reminder to have the kids fill another time capsule tonight.

My reminder that this messy life is blessed.

Updated to Add: Jessica’s got a great Leap Day time capsule template on her blog. Thank you, Jessica! We’ll be doing these today (March 1st) and then tucking it away until 2020.

(Whoa. Can’t believe I just typed that. 2020?! Yikes. 🙂 )

What a great idea to make a time capsule! Now if I can just corner the kids tonight to write letters. Is your pup a golden retriever? That is what we have and just love her to pieces.

We’ll be putting the finishing touches on ours today as well, dear Sue, using Jessica’s template from Shower of Roses: http://showerofroses.blogspot.com/2016/02/leap-day-time-capsule.html

No worries, right?! It’s all good, it’s all family fun. ♥

Hi. So happy you and your family are getting another puppy. My computer was down for six months or so during the time you lost your Ellie and I did not know for quite a while that she was gone and when I finally found out, I did not want to bring up such sad thing to tell you how sorry I was. Also a picture I found back then showed Ellie with a barf bucket in front of her. Dogs of her size can have tortion bloat where the stomach flips and if it isn’t caught, it can be fatal. This may not have been the case with Ellie but I mention it just in case. Jax sure is a cutie. Lois
