A Somewhat Belated, Back-to-School Review, alternately titled:
Guys. I really, really want to be blogging more often. I do! It’s just that (among another 12 hundred things), it’s taken me four full weeks to find my homeschooling stride and you know what?
It still goes missing!
But it’s getting better.
“I’m sorry I locked myself in the van, Mommy! Here’s a flower. Forgive me?”
The bottom line: It’s HARD to homeschool when you have a two-year-old.
It’s HARD to homeschool when you have a two-year-old *and* a six-year-old.
It’s hardest of ALL to homeschool when you have a two-year-old, a six-year-old, and a very, VERY opinionated almost 11-year-old.
This is going to sound cliché, but a new show on Netflix saved the day.
Dinotrux to the rescue! The kids can watch it while I sit numbly rocking in my chair.
First, the trailer. You can watch it to see if it’s a show that might interest you. If not, read no further! You’ve got better things to be doing with your day.
Cute, right? Cute and clever, right? My boys love LOVE the concept, and it didn’t hurt that Netflix sent me a package of goodies to sweeten the deal .
(Don’t be jealous. Yes, I get branded care packages from time to time, but that also means {gasp!} that I actually have to blog about it.)
(And you know how good I’ve been about blogging.)
First off, the “Excavenger” Hunt was totally cool. You could do this with your kids–just start with a card that reads:
Dinotrux is about fun and friends and making you think.
Your first clue is under the _______ !”
(Yes, they’ll have to use their rhyming skills.)
Under the sink, you will have placed the next clue. This one reads:
When Waldo is hungry he can be a big grouch.
Your next clue is under the ________ .”
Your kids will then run to the couch (hopefully), where they’ll find Clue Number 3:
To fix a problem, Skya uses her head.
Your last clue is under your ________!”
It would be worth the investment to buy a Dinotrux toy.
See what I mean? Francis loves his Ton-Ton.
Bottom Line #2: I have a love/hate relationship with Netflix. I love that they make it so darn easy to watch television, and I hate that they make it so darn easy to watch television.
Because…hello?! We’re homeschoolers. We’re supposed to, like, read books and stuff.
But honestly, Dinotrux is a show I can endorse, and it’s not just because Netflix sent me stuff.
HONESTLY. I asked my almost 11-year-old to write a review of the show and so she did:
Dino trux:
This show is cool. It has everything a kid wants. Dinosaurs, and trucks combined. I say no more.
So there you go and here you go! A free review to make your day a bit better…
…on days when your day needs making.

My boys really like that show, too! And don’t worry about not blogging, Margaret! It will return. For now, just live and enjoy each day! (That’s what I am telling myself, too 🙂

Me too ;p I think the 11 year old is a future Mother Superior.
