Except weight! I mean, wait!
I can’t weigh in because I had my husband hide the scale! I really did and he gladly did so…
Because it’s not just about the weight.
Have you ever been having a conversation with someone when—all of a sudden and out of the blue—something they say ignites a spark in you? This happened to me last fall, when I was chaperoning a dance at my sons’ school and was chatting with a friend and fellow parent, Jenn.
She told me that she’d stopped eating dairy and wheat, having tested positive for allergies. “Eggs!” she exclaimed, shaking her head with a laugh. “I have been eating SO many eggs!”
I thought at the time, “I can’t imagine.” And I couldn’t…at that time.
Yet here I am, allergic to neither wheat nor to dairy, giving up both (and sugar!) (and grains!) for 30—30!—days in a row.
And you know what?
I feel good.
Fair enough. It was a close third.)

OK, so I'll bite… what is that on your plate?
minnesotamom says
Nothing TOO reckless–just some leftover chicken thighs with sauteed mushrooms & onions. Oh, and spinach. Lots & lots of spinach.

I love five pounds so quickly when I gave up dairy for N's allergies. This is also the most stable and lowest my weight has been as an adult. I am sort of terrified to wean her, I must admit! Your breakfast looks super yummy! I'm eating loads of spinach too.

Giving up dairy was the hardest. My beloved yogurt! That shot of half & half in my coffee! Fortunately, I discovered coconut cream at Trader Joe's and have been using that in my morning cup instead. Believe it or not, it's really good!!

I love that photo of you, how attractive you are. Best of luck with this eating plan, I hope it works for you.

Thank you, sweet Sarah. My hair in that picture reminds me of one your photos, except yours are much much better! : )

My husband and I slimmed way down (me to my pre-college weight from 16 years ago) when I started feeding our autistic son a grain-free menu. We still ate our bread on the side sometimes and enjoyed treats at night, but I was amazed at how eating good fats and few grains affected our weight. I'm sure you will find the same.
minnesotamom says
I know, right? It's crazy how good I feel eating good fats!
Love you much, chere Mere.

Good luck on your Whole 30! I gave up, like, every.thing. after the first of the year, and it was amazing how the cravings went away. I've tried to eat paleo for a while, but I never gave up dairy, and it was the dairy, evidently, that kept my cravings coming back. I've read also that getting rid of non-veggie carbs and the accompanying cravings gets rid of the craving for alcohol, so that's something to think about. I'm very sympathetic to your relationship with alcohol having spent many formative years at Ala-teen, Ala-non, and AA meetings. I hope this plan helps with the weight and the alcohol. You're beautiful!

Oh Sara, you're so sweet. It is always good to hear from a fellow AHG mom!

We were on a similar diet as Meredith and her family (you should have seen us all when we got together, and heard all of our food conversations), and also lost a lot of weight. I am happy to be only gluten-free now though and my own symptoms have stayed away with that.
Much love to you!

And the exchange of lard, almond flour, and baked goods. 🙂 Lard is my favorite carry-over from that experience.

As one of the handful of MN representatives at Edel, I did get asked at least once if I was you or knew you! I am not that lucky as of yet, but it is my hope to run into you at AALFA sometime! Whole30 sounds scary to me, but Jenny's blog makes it sounds worthwhile! I'm sure you'll keep us in the loop as you go 🙂

My sister in law is coming to the end of her 30 days doing the Whole30. She has spoken very highly of it. Hang in there! It will be worth it.
Jenny says
Oh, this makes me so happy! I'm on day 24 myself (or day 3, if you adhere to the strictest guidelines which say baaaaaaaack to the start if you stray) and feeling good.
