Word-for-the-Year Wednesday

January 15, 2014 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Minnesota Me, Prayer, Resolutions, Spiritual Growth 10 Comments

I decided to choose a Word for the Year and it is:

Breathe

This is an especially good word for me because I often forget TO breathe. You wouldn’t think that was possible but it is and I’m proof.

It’s very uncomfortable to go without breathing.

I turn blue and the kids back away from me slowly.

Not anymore, though, because I’ve got a new word! And it works, thank Goodness; it really works. This word’s been a very good fit for me. Note: it’s not just a word but rather, a word and a prayer. Every time I pause to breathe–inhaling in…slowly exhaling out…I say the words of the Pilgrim’s Prayer.

Inhale slowly: “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God…”

And exhale: “Have mercy on me, a sinner.”

I like this Word of the Year very much. It is better–much better–than my first choice, which was Scream.

(Yeah, not so much.)

Great word. And I need it, too. Holy cow, what is it about kids that makes you hold your breath? Sometimes I feel like a baby, you know that moment when they hold their breath because the huge cry is coming? Yup, that's me!

That's a great one. I could use that one! I chose Believe this year. I need that childlike faith.

Funny, I just started doing a yoga tape which ends lying flat on your back for a few minutes…the whole routine focuses on breathing but during that last exercise, I've been saying that exact prayer.

    Love it Maggie!

Reminds me of Consoling the Heart of Jesus…only slightly different words. (only slightly) The feeling is the same.

Been wondering how you are doing this winter? Tom is in deep depression….winters are so hard. He actually took off work til he is doing better.

Jamie, I'm so sorry to hear that. I will up the ante on my prayers for him.

I'm doing well in that arena. I *do* feel seasonally affected (oh sun, where art thou?!) but so far, it's been manageable.

      {hugs} & {love}
