Here we Minnesotans go again. Although the start of the week brought us balmy temps, (We saw the 30’s! A heat wave!), the mercury is expected to steadily drop today and by tomorrow…

…we’re expecting a “high” in the low teens with wind chills way below zero. What’s more, parts of the state are having blizzard conditions while other parts have simply left for Barbados.
With that said, here’s a little quiz for you.
Looking forward (I think…) to seeing your response!
Is it any wonder we choose to cuddle up with great books? Except when there’s a great conference in town. At that point, of course, we’re forced to go out.

Which we do. Pridefully. It’s our way of shaking a fist at the snow.
(The Well-Read Mom conference was SO much fun! Where you there? Leave a “hullo!” in the com-box.)

And so it goes and here I sit, a prisoner of that arctic air. It’s not so bad, you know, being cooped up all day. I get to walk into the kitchen and be greeted by this:
A hearty Minnesotan thumbing his nose at highchair safety.
He’s cheeky, that one. Keeps him young.
Linda R. says
Love it, Margaret! Great photos! What a fun guy to be cooped up with š Hunkering down over here, too. That wind sure is strong today, eh?
minnesotamom says
I wish I had gotten a photo of all of us, though! And that reminds me…I forgot to give you credit for that photo of me & Marcie! : )
minnesotamom says
There! Proper credit has been given.
bearing says
You know who your little guy reminds me of in those pictures, especially the second-to-last one? Mercer Mayer's drawings of Little Critter.
minnesotamom says
It's the little teeth and the shoopy hair, I think.

The next time your face freezes, go for that "I'm too sexy for my coat look." It looks like you forgot the BREATHE in that one. š
My vote reveals my desire to not go any farther north than I currently am. As Faith said during her geography lesson the other day, Minnesota is PRACTICALLY in Canada! Yuppers.

I love that first photo, love it! Perhaps I should a poll up come July about the 116 degree temps with 100 % humidity here in Texas – because that's when I think I'm crazy to live here!
Jennie C. says
Live in Minnesota? Where it's summer for like five minutes? Not a chance! š
minnesotamom says
That's so not fair, Jennie. We make it to FIFTEEN minutes, easily.
Jennie C. says
My apologies. š

Is it really only Jan.16th? I love winter, but this winter..brrrrr. Good thing for sweet cheeks to snuggle with and keep us warm.
Jamie Jo says
Love the first photo!!!
Even though I live in the tundra, I voted coffee through nose.
You forgot to mention the way below zero wind chills for tomorrow. We cant even enjoy the winter this year it seems, the days are slim where we can play outside!
minnesotamom says
There! The sub-zero wind chills have been added.

Sarah says
I'm with Jamie, I live here, but I voted coffee through the nose ~ LOL! That's how I've been feeling this winter anyway. But going to things like the WRM conference is worth braving the wind and the snow š Let's brave it again for coffee together, Margaret. What do you say?!
minnesotamom says
Definitely! Next week?
Sarah says
OK! How about Wednesday or Friday? I think we have WRM on Thursday, right?
Sarah says
I'm scrolling, still looking for the survey that asks why we Minnesotans really live here or, if given the chance how fast we could have our house/family packed up and head south? lol. MN and Me are at odds this winter.
minnesotamom says
Sarah Sarah Sarah! Where've you been all my life?! (Or, at least, the last year of it.)
Sue says
I was born in Ohio, but we moved south when I was just one year old, then as a young adult I moved to the Tokyo area, which is pretty similar in weather to my hometown, Atlanta. I've always dreamed of living somewhere snowy – until recently. It must be age, but I have finally realized that I probably couldn't handle that drastic of a change at my age, what with all the snow shoveling and d-d-d-driving in snow. Eeek! My hat's off to you!!

My Aunt and Uncle used to live in Minnesota in the Winter and rural Alaska in the Summer. I guess they liked the cold. My Mom is from Minnesota (Park Rapids), so I know it is a beautiful state. I am just not sure I could live without all 4 seasons. Although when it gets hot and humid here in VA, Minnesota does sound nice.
