Our Holy Family

December 30, 2013 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Gratitude, Minnesota Me, Special Events 4 Comments

A 5th Day of Christmas Recap

I thought long and hard yesterday about what it means to be a “Holy Family.”

And then I thought about my own crazy crew…

And about our family get-togethers, both in North Dakota and down here…

And about how none of us is perfect and yet, we are all of us loved…

Xmas 2013 IX
Will those big baby blues get him a sugar cookie?
Xmas 2013 X
Yes, they will. Every time.

And then I broke off a snap of my daughter’s gingerbread house, shrugged, and kept on celebrating.

Xmas 2013 II
My mom and dad! 89 years young and still living strong.

You’re still celebrating Christmas, right? Without all that pre-Christmas Eve pressure, which is GREAT?

Xmas 2013 VII
The fam–my fam. All five sisters and my brother to boot.
All of us! Together! For a family photo!

Xmas 2013 V
Cousins!

Xmas 2013 VI
More cousins! Gosh, how we love ’em.

I am so very grateful that Christmas is a season, because all that fun & feasting & love? It’s impossible to fit it all into one day.

Xmas 2013 VIII

Ours is not a perfect love, of course. Our family’s got flaws and a fair share of them.

And yet…as I think about it and when I think about Him…

I am struck by His love, His unconditional love. It’s a love that’s sustained us all these years. How many years? Eighteen! Our anniversary was yesterday!

Xmas 2013 I
On the 5th Day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…
Nothin’! Though we are going out for dinner tonight.

So Merry Christmas, again and again. May your days be bright if not perfect…yet. May you look for His love and when you find it…

Share it.

(And then finish up that eggnog before it goes bad. )

(I like mine with a splash of brandy.)

Happy 5th Day of Christmas!
