Over the River and through the Woods

A Sewing Weekend

So…

Friday night found me feeling puny, and thus the whiny post about the low-comment day. Forgive me!  “I’d had a glass of wine,” I explained in an email to Charlotte on Saturday. “As such, I was feeling forward.”

“Don’t let Drunk You blog!” she wrote back.

It’s true. Drunk Tipsy Me speaks her mind too freely, and I hope you’ll forgive my sticking my hand out like that. Gimme, gimme, gimme, huh? What can I say, I am a constant craver of all things affirmative.

Thank you (again) for putting up with me.

Here’s the good news, though: while I was feeling puny on Friday night, on Saturday I was happy! Do you ever just need to get away from it all and do something fun and creative?

“No,” you’re thinking, with a patient eye roll. “I prefer to not get away and not have fun.”

Alright, so the answer to that question was pretty obvious.

It turns out that all I needed was some sewing therapy, and my beautiful mother-in-law came to the rescue. Thank you, Grandma Cathy! She has been wanting to teach my girls how to sew (I know, I know; she’s a keeper!) and we were finally able to make it work.

[This despite a massive detour on the way up.]

[Let’s just say that the pouring rain + one wrong turn = our seeing a whole new side of Minnesota!  Beelines are boring, right? Far better to spend an extra half hour traveling.]

Eventually we did arrive, and it was a fun two days. A lovely home on the Mississippi River…a cozy workspace and an excuse to just sew…

…and a Grandpa who kept a roving Francis happy.

Not that he was “roving” in this photo.

Two sets of jammie bottoms and one baby gift later, I–scratch that–we are smiling happily.

The moral of the story? Friends don’t let friends blog drunk! Not to mention, the housework will always wait for a weekend, whereas time spent with family?

Priceless.

Sewing therapy always helps me out too. I popped over after reading your comment on Charlotte's blog.
I also love all things affirmative, so even though I've not read the tipsy blog post, I already was nodding my head thinking 'I so get that'. Have a lovely day!

Looks like you had a great weekend – a sewing teacher for the girls and a baby snuggler for Francis! So nice!

How wonderful! Glad you had a refreshing time. The offer is always open up here if you ever feel the need to escape. šŸ™‚

Oh my goodness. That Grandpa and baby picture is adorable. I've come back to look at it twice now! So sweet. Yay for your girls! Yay for Grandma Cathy! I think you need to make sewing weekends regular things. You better post a finished picture of that baby gift as soon as it's not secret anymore!

Both my mom and grandmother were sewers and so my sister and I were taught this wonderful skill at a young age and continue to sew to this day, although not as much. This was such a good thing for you and your girls on many levels – sounds like an absolutely wonderful weekend of girl time, and time with grandmas is always priceless.

What a fun way to spend a weekend. Every once in a while, the spirit moves me and I sew. And then I want to sew all the time.

It's so wonderful that your daughters are learning to sew. It's a wonderful skill to have.

Blogging drunk – very funny. My hubby knows to keep me off the phone when I have had too much wine for the same reason.
Oh that looks like a fun weekend! It reminds me of when I was young my Mom would ask us some weekends what we felt like doing. Then we would actually do whatever that was- within reason of course. šŸ™‚ Her reasoning was that if we didn't do it on those occasions we never would. I remember days of making homemade doughnuts, having cake decorating contests, pie making contests, and lots of sewing on those days. I have got to work on having more fun with my kids!

Oh, Betsy, that sounds like such a wonderful idea!! Minnesota winter weekends sound like a super time to implement that idea!! Hmmmm….asking that question "What do you feel like doing?" could be really fun!

SQUEAL! You are such a tease, showing those carefully placed leaves!! And the only way once can prevent drunk blogging is to show up and (share the wine) keep you from the 'puter. Hmmmmm….now there's a thought. It made me smile to see a certain young lady sewing having sewn a habit for her.

Next time I would love to really have you stop in and see Jamie and I. We would love to see that baby in person!

I hope you are inspired to sew more! (Although I know how much easier it must be when grandpa has the baby and he's not in your arms.)

Write drunk, edit sober – that's the blogging advice I once read. You have such nice family to visit with baby holders and everything. Hope you made jammies for yourself too!
