“We’ve all made mistakes
that seem to lead us astray;
But every time they helped
to get us where we are today.”
Do you have them? Do you set them? Are they S.M.A.R.T goals, as in Specific; Measurable; Attainable; Realistic; and Timely?
I do. I have lots of goals, and eating healthfully is at the top of the list.
So is staying active.
That habit I have, though, of not being hungry when I sit down to supper because I’ve gnoshed my way through the dinner prep? That one I’m not so fond of.
Look. I know it’s not all about the scale. I do believe, objectively speaking, that there is a healthy weight for our body’s frame…and there is an unhealthy weight. Here are two good websites for determining your body frame & weight, with a tip of the hat to my friend Charlotte:
Please, please know my goal is scaling back (ha) what I eat is not just about a number. It’s about overcoming a lifetime of bad habits, and of not turning to food when I should be turning to God.
God and a good, tall glass of ice water.
With those two, I can conquer the world. ; )
“It’s a long and rugged road and we don’t know where it’s headed, But we know it’s going to get us where we’re going.
”And when we find what we’re looking for, we’ll drop these bags and search no more, ‘Cause it’s gonna feel like heaven when we’re home.”
If you want to join me on this journey—be my “diet buddy”, as it were—I would love it! Just leave a comment saying you’re there with me, and I will hold you in prayer. A healthy, happy, active attitude! That, dear friend, is my number one goal.
I can do this! So can you.
Note: I will not be posting photos of my weight, but I have put a ticker on my web site to chart my progress. (This would be the “M” of measurable.) I got the ticker @ My Fitness Pal, HT my diet buddy Therese!

The scale is a hate/love. I keep some very broad goals, but the arrow moves too slowly at times. It's more thrilling and telling when my clothes are going down in sizes. The eating healthy I'm doing okay, but exercise is my nemesis. I'm in this with you! I won't be posting, but mutual cheer section!

I don't have a scale. I think my kids broke it a long time ago, so I go by the amount of fat I can pinch on my belly and "love handles", lol!

The only time I really lost weight was for my 20th high school reunion. It still was hard. Still IS hard. I would love to lose just 10 lbs..so I will be your weight loss buddy! I love to work out..but it sure is hard to find the time. I also love to eat especially chocolate…so this is going to stink-HA! You will need to pray really hard for ME!

You don't have to give up chocolate, Christine! I know I'M not.

But what if chocolate is a trigger? Maybe it's more specifically sugar. I know that for me, I had to put sugar down….all the way down so I could focus on going to God before going to the food. I call this step zero. I really had to put the food in its place so I could work on the bigger issues of coping with life. Sugar is a sure fire trigger for my compulsive eating/overeating/grazing. Once I figured out that trigger and decided to give that over to God, the miracles started to work. I'm now down 80 lbs. from my all time high weight. I'm finally at a healthy weight, don't eat sugar unless it's listed 5th or higher on an ingredient label, and don't miss any of the foods I thought I couldn't live without….namely cake. The cravings actually did go away after app. 3 weeks of giving up sugar in all its forms. I wish you the best. I know how difficult weight loss and weight obsession is. I really did want an easier, softer way to learn to live with food without it being such a stinkin' nemesis. But I really do love my life this way, am finally at peace with my body, and have no guilt around food. Love to you, Margaret.:)

I loved that first link you linked (after Charlotte)! I thought I had 65 lbs to lose and it says I only have 52!! Yahoo!!
Having right hip and knee troubles preventing me from working out now (I love to workout) I'm going to the chiropractor to fix it! (too many years holding babies on my left hip)
Yay Maggie, noticed your ticker was down today! Keep it up!

I love the MyFitnessPal website — have been using it since January, but haven't been as conscientious about it since summer kicked in. And it shows, the scale hasn't budged for months. I was doing the mediterranean diet, which emphasizes 'lots of veggies. But I've fallen off that wagon during the summer; just too much going on. Perhaps this will motivate me to get back on. I'm with you Margaret!

Go Margaret! You are awesome and I know you can reach your goals. I look forward to celebrating with you when you do.

I'm with you Margaret! I personally need the discipline of a weekly weigh in. I need to be accountable. Plus, If I've gained a few pounds, I can focus on getting back on the saddle and it doesn't seem as overwhelming if it's only 3 or 5 lbs. To me, smaller, steadier steps is easier. I'm also a relatively new convert to group exercise classes – for years I was a lone wolf – but I've come to really enjoy my time and camaraderie with my work out buddies. My favorite classes are WillPower and Grace, Bar Method and Hot Yoga. I try to take 2 or 3 classes a week.

I'm with you! After 12 pregnancies and 9 kids in 15 years I have a few pounds to loose 🙂 I keep falling prey to stress eating. I'm not getting any younger. Its time to get motivated!

I am with you! My new thing is I am trying fasting (for weight loss, not religious fasting, although I do that too!). It really flies in the face of everything I've always been taught about dieting. It is really changing my relationship with food (in a good way), and my body is enjoying feeling hunger again!

I recently tried to scale back my food. While nursing an almost 4 month old. Let's just say that week was not a good one, as she was an unhappy camper. It seems, food and my milk supply are friends. So, for me, I'm focusing on the "active" part. I'm running 3 miles a week, and doing Tae Bo once a week, then the Body Pump classes (at 38 years old, I need help in boosting that slooowww metabolism now). So, while I won't "track" calories or food until the baby is firmly established on solids, I will join you. If I can 🙂
