(only the highlights, I promise)
Note Number I: Sacerdotal Ordination
That’s a fancy term for becoming a priest.
“Fancy” as in, oh my goodness, ten new priests!
My family attended this ceremony on Saturday morning. It was very beautiful and very long.
“Long” as in three hours total.
“Three hours total” as in so very worth it.
Note Number II: Another Angela-ism
(The Ordination Edition)
On our way into the Cathedral, I told Angela that she looked really pretty. And she did, too, if you don’t mind me saying—all long blonde hair and soft gray satin.
“Thank you,” she said. “My shoes are dirty, though.”
“I’m sorry!” I told her, glancing down at the scuffed white leather. “If today had been all about you, I would have shined your shoes.”
“If today was all about me,” she remarked, “I wouldn’t be going to a 3-hour Mass.”
Note Number III: The [Would-Be] Mother of a Priest
I told my sons (the two oldest ones) that although this was their first Ordination Mass, I certainly hoped it wasn’t the last.
Hint hint.
This sort of statement doesn’t surprise those two.
I should have named them James & John.
Note Number IV: The Face of Five (Months Old)
After the lengthy liturgy on Saturday, Sunday’s Mass went by really fast! (Though not according to George & Francis.) We went downstairs for donuts and coffee, then farmed out the three little girls to some friends of ours.
They have, fittingly, a hobby farm.
The rest of the day was for much-need rest. I did lift a finger (and my camera) to take some photos of Francis…
…who is turning out to be a little blonde brownie, just like big sister Angela.
(Uh oh.)
Note Number V: One Last Note
Yesterday we celebrated George’s birthday with a Phineas & Ferb-themed party.
Specifically, Perry the Platypus…
…also known as Agent P.
I’ve remarked already how fast the past four years have gone. I know I will blink and he’ll be fourteen; blink again, and he’ll be forty.
(making me…older than I care to think)
Good thing those grandkids will keep me young! I plan to have lots and lots of grandkids!
And lots of great-grandkids!!
And, God willing, at least one great priest.

Wow, 10 priests! That is awesome. And, oh boy, is that baby cute 🙂

I think your little Francis should be Pope Francis for Halloween. Look at those big eyes, bald oval head, chubby cheeks… I can just see him raising his hand in blessing…

Great catch-up post. I'm lovin' that little blonde brownie, but hopeful he will not be a little blue tornado.
I am a little closer to grandkids than you are (I believe — but you never know…) and I am seeing how little choice I have in that whole matter, and am seeing it from the perspective of my mother and in-laws so many years ago. It's no wonder they never stopped asking (which made primary infertility so much more stressful). I, too, pray for many grandchildren, but now see there is not a thing I can do but pray…like so many things in life these days. It's a good thing I garden on my knees — the gardening rosary prayers are plentiful, and will continue to be.
I also pray (see a trend?) for a priest, even though one of the boys is engaged and the other two have declared it's not for them. I pray that if God is asking He asks really loudly because my boys don't listen very well. Or maybe it's that obedience thing. Our new deacon told us last week that it really doesn't matter if he wants to be a priest or if we want him to be a priest. The only thing that matter is God's call! Love that. <3 I'll be waiting when he does.
Love to you today, dear friend!

Thanks for saying this, Barbara! As a young woman (getting older!) and still unmarried, I'm learning that there's nothing one can do about the marriage and children vocation except leave it up to God! My mother's friends are showered with marriages and babies in their families and with a bunch of grown adult children of her own, my mom's house is still silent of wedding bells and babies. There's nothing my siblings and I can do about it, so we learn to love and live as God wants us to love and live…

Happy Birthday to your big 4yr old cutie pie! He is adorable. And the BABY…so much adorableness..can hardly handle it!
I would love to make it to a Mass like that. Maybe next year!
YIKES..Barbara has me a little worried. I, too, am expecting lots and lots and lots and lots of grandbabies to hug and hold. I better start whispering into their ears at night while they sleep.HA!

10 new priests – what a blessing!! And I am always praying/hoping that one of my boys will be a priest. My eldest will often say, "I think I'll be a dad. Or a priest." We tell him both are great vocations.

Can I be honest with you???? You have the cutest, most wonderful kids. I just love Angela…I just want to squeeze that George….AND Francis. Thanks for sharing your family with us, Margaret! I ALWAYS smile when I visit here!

Angela-isms, love em..:)

We have a couple "Angela's" in this house whom I can see spouting that exact comment!
I miss Minnesota ordinations: the cathedral, the people, the vocations, just not the same here.

Was one of those new priests, Father Ellis? We know his family up here, homeschoolers!
