Thought (and Project) for the Day

September 2, 2012 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Minnesota Me, Reviews, Spiritual Growth, Unemployment 8 Comments

My husband took the kids camping for the weekend so that I could get our classroom ready. Yes, I know. He’s a good, good man.

However, being a highly distracted, ADD-type, I need to take the occasional break. Enter Meryl Streep’s amazing performance as former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the film, The Iron Lady.

(Good, good movie—highly recommended.)

(Available now at your local Redbox.)

One of the many memorable quotes from the movie is this:

Watch your thoughts, for they become words;
Watch your words, for they become actions;
Watch your actions, for they become habits;
Watch your habits, for they become your character;
And watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.

What we think, we become.

DE Trip XIX

It doesn’t matter that I’ve heard this before—someplace, somewhere. What matters is that I needed to hear it…today.

Happy Labor Day weekend, everyone! If you could a spare a prayer for all the people who are out of work, my husband included, I would be truly grateful.

    Thanks for the movie recommendation, and I just said a prayer for your husband and family. It's no fun for you to wait for his new job to arrive, but his extra time with your kids is wonderful.

    I pray for employment for your husband in my morning prayers every day. My husband has been laid off since November, so I very much understand the stress of the situation. May God bless you and keep you in this time.

    aww, we *hated* the movie! 🙁 I was so excited to see it b/c Margaret Thatcher was such an awesome rockin' lady (And so quotable) and i really felt like it focused on her dementia/end of life rather than all the stuff she actually did!

    silly hollywood.

    prayers for your husband!

    I second the movie recommendation!!

    Also, something you can do to add a little decor to the house – Take the quote you enjoyed, put it onto a Word (or Pages) document with your preferred fancy font, and big enough to take up the entire page. Print it out on Parchment paper. Frame it in an antique-looking frame, and post where it will help the most….. I have a copy in every bedroom in our house, as well as the 2 most used bathrooms 🙂

    I have also done this with other prayers and sayings I have part of St Patrick's Breastplate (I arise today, through
God's strength to pilot me,
God's might to uphold me,
God's wisdom to guide me,
God's eye to look before me,
God's ear to hear me,
God's word to speak for me,
God's hand to guard me,
God's shield to protect me,
God's host to save me
From snares of devils,
From temptation of vices,
From everyone who shall wish me ill,
afar and near.) on green parchment paper framed in a gold frame with a Claddaugh on it at the bottom of the stairs we come down every morning and the Morning Offering in every bedroom….. Best thing about this – when you feel like no one is "seeing" the prayers anymore, you change the color of parchment, the font, or the prayer itself, and it is like new…. and, it is an economically responsible way to keep the aesthetics – and spiritual awareness – 'fresh' 🙂

    I printed this quote out too, but not on parchment. If I can find some I will get on that today!

    Drooling over the Cathedral choir opportunity you are taking advantage of. I f we could ever get out of here and back to city life we would join you!
