Post Update: I fixed the links below so that you can see Regan & Jamie’s butterfly collages too. It really is a darling, darling craft.
The Overcoming-One’s-Perfectionism Edition
Now, I know that the dear ladies over at Like Mother, Like Daughter host this series on Thursday, not Friday. However, I’ve been running a day late and a dollar short all week so…
Send me a dollar and I’ll get right back on track.
I promise.
My contribution to the “Pretty” category is this easy-as-pie butterfly collage:
I saw it at Regan’s and I saw it over at Jamie’s, too.
I saw it here on the original website, complete with shopping list & tutorial.
I came, I saw…but I did not conquer. Why? Because I’m me. I bought the supplies at Michaels and there they sat in the closet. For a month they sat; for two months they sat. Why? Because I never think “now” is the best time for a project…I never think it will be good enough.
Pity the child with a perfectionist mother!
And know that she is working on this.
Eventually I sighed and made peace the process. I rolled up my their sleeves and just…did the darn things.
They turned out cute!
Not perfect, but cute.
Happy is finding out in the morning that your friend from Anchorage will be in town that afternoon!
Happy! Happy! Happy! Did I mention this made me very happy?
I hadn’t seen Brian for TWO YEARS, on account of his moving my best friend (his wife) and their family to Alaska. I still find this extremely unreasonable of him.
But I forgive him.
Brian opted out of the butterfly project. Instead, he sipped his Bailey’s and texted his wife (my best friend) and made affirming comments to my little girls. A synergistic relationship at its best!
Funny is seeing your little boy in a smock.
I purchased it at IKEA in a fit of optimism, and then it hung in the closet for another six months.
Not really.
But kind of really.
Real is your refrigerator next to your couch; real is trying to keep that bare plywood clean; and real is knowing that Do-It-Yourself means When-You-Can.
Real is making peace with this–and with every uncertainty that life can sling. Why? Because in the end these little messes don’t matter…but those pretty smiles and funny faces and unexpected friends for supper do!
They really, really, really do.

And wish them a happy 4th blog birthday while you’re there!

Beautiful butterflies!
Construction is always crazy. I have lived it and lived in it for most of my married life.
I have a DIY-kind of guy and it takes him forever!

Gracious, Theresa, she does look tall in that photo, doesn't she? It must have been those four inch sneakers. š

The butterfly project is so cute!! Love it! I'm putting that on my list of crafts, though to be honest, all that paint scares me. lol š
And the pic of your little guy in the smock with the beyond adorable smile is heart melting. Precious.

Love the butterfly project!
I don't know if I mentioned that the Army has decided that Alaska would be a good place for us to live for 3 years. I have been meaning to ask you how you live (and survive) in the cold! Maybe a post about what clothing to buy to stay warm?

Oh.my.goodness!! That second photo of George is heart melting. I'm putty.
Beautiful butterflies! Perfect is over-rated. Look at the smiles on the faces of those precious girls.

Looks like a fun project for your kids! It reminds me of this one from the home design/DIY blog Young House Love:

Your butterflies turned out great!! This was kind of a big project, quite a few steps, with first waterpainting the paper then, clipping the butterflies out, then painting the canvas's and then the easiest part of all was letting the kiddos stick those sticky things on the butterflies and the counter and the floor and the….
We had our supplies about a month before doing them too!!

Oh, we live in Alaska, too ~ love it! And I'm looking up that craft when my littles take a nap (I said that I'd be straightening up while they played outside, but here I am on the computer…). Your smallest boy in that smock with those brown eyes is indeed heart melting. Big sighs.

The butterflies turned out so pretty! Also I have made many, optimistic purchases at IKEA too! Maybe it's because I don't get there very often and I worry if I don't get it right then I'll miss out? Turns out your purchase wasn't bogus after all-you did use it!

What a beautiful craft!
And, I love the real fridge in the real living room in your real home. š

oh!! i love that you did that craft! wasn't it bright and cheery? and i must admit that the ONLY reason ours was done so timely is that MY girl MADE me sit with her and punch out all those little butterflies (guilt from when that needle was stuck in her leg!) she is my only girl so i tend to indulge…
so sorry to read that post on your niece…life and death matters are always so difficult to sort out emotionally. the accidents. the illnesses. and the sorrow that follows…sigh. big. sigh.
what've we got but our trust and hope in the ONE Who created all these people for us to love.
these words have always brought me some comfort: the ones we love have not been annihilated. they live on in eternity…
hugs to you , dear one.
