Today, thanks to Tracy, we watched a monarch caterpillar go from this:
…to this:
They have milkweed plants growing in a garden at Pinewood Castle and were good enough to share some caterpillars with us. Hooray for the changes that took place before our eyes!
Also today, thanks to…hormones, I guess, I watched my firstborn son go from this:
…to this:
His dad took this picture on their way to Joe’s first dance. Boo for the changes that are taking place before my eyes! (Not really.) (Okay, maybe.)
Actually, I am thrilled that he’s going to this particular dance. A couple of teenagers from our homeschool co-op offered swing dancing lessons on Monday and Wednesday; tonight the teens will see how much they remember!
I am going to publish this post and go watch the last hour.
I am, as David Bowie put it, going to go and face the strain.
Change is good! Growth is good! I am a brave and courageous mother!
Right?

I hear that change is good. Jury is still out for me.
I have my first teenager. Sigh.

what a very handsome young man that young lad is!

Well, seeing as they are going to grow up with or without us, I think I prefer "with". I know you do, too. That doesn't mean we have to like it, though, right?

i just have to tell you that you handle this "growing older" thing so well. every time i think about my boys doing things like "going to jr high" and "dances" and ohsweetmercyican'tevenimagine….
my heart hurts.
so cheers to you 🙂

Joe and I were just out on the porch eating ice cream and wondering how your monarchs were doing.
Seeing your eldest breaks my heart too but the fact that you are shaping him into such a fine young man takes the edge of the pain a little!

You can do this ! It's hard though. My baby is starting high school this year and it's as hard as it was for my 27 year old. The middle two were easy to let go, go figure. Enjoy each stage and enjoy every second of your 2 year old. Oh how I miss 2 year olds!
