Cozy Rolls on a Crazy Day

December 11, 2010 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Keeping It Real, Minnesohta, Minnesota Me 18 Comments

“Laura…go fetch me the coffee mill, will you? I need to grind some wheat for dinner.”

Bliz II

You’ve heard, perhaps, about the December blizzard that’s slamming the Midwest today?

Yep, that’s us.

Bliz III

It’s hard to do justice to a snowstorm from one’s doorway.

Bliz I

Better to hand the camera to my husband.

Bliz V

Should I do that before or after he gives me a smack?

What can I say? I’m watching the baby.

Bliz VI

And plus I don’t want the rolls to burn.

::Want the details on this mammoth storm?::

So far we’ve had over a foot of snow (this since we went to bed last night) and are due to receive another half foot or so.

Visibility is down to a quarter of a mile. Grab the clothesline if you need to go out.

Roads and airport runways are closed, as is the perpetual adoration chapel at my church. Everything is basically canceled.

Oh, and the guy in the van in the middle of the street? That’s my husband on the way back from the gas station. He can’t make it up the driveway.

(I put down my camera and took the wheel at the point. An hour later, and thanks to our neighbor, we got the van up the driveway.)

Bliz VII
Honey, where’d the grill go?

We shan’t be leaving the house again! Good thing I’ve got that coffee mill.

Oh ick, Margaret! The snow, not the rolls. The rolls, I'd come over for if the roads were passable. The snow, I'm sorry, but you can have it. That is crazy out there!!

Dare I say that I think the snow has stopped here? And that we only got a few inches? Okay, I won't mention it.

Enjoy a roll (or two) for me!!

I want to be snowed in!

All we have is a wind chill of -14 and getting colder!

I say, if it's going to be so dang cold, there better be some snow to go with it!

So very jealous. I a Maine transplant living in Indiana — and we're getting a cold, heavy rain tonight that will freeze hard tomorrow. That is exactly zero fun, especially for the little one! (Of course, I just enjoy the snow from the inside and let my husband do the shoveling.) So, take an extra bun and cup of coffee and enjoy the snow double for me!!!

Oh hey! I made cinnamon rolls this morning too!

    Something about a huge snowstorm…

I made cinnamon muffins this morning too. So we too are enjoying this boutiful snowfall on the west side of the Twin Cities and we only ventured out for confession…5 miles away. After about 1 minute in the car though, I wanted to turn back because it was CRAZY! However, we made it to the church, waded through thigh level drifts to get to the front door and inside was nice and cozy warm. Now we are back home and I am thankful we aren't going back out again until tomorrow.

    Have a great evening!

umm…if I had known the runways were closed…we wouldn't have headed from Maple Grove to St. Paul….Having lived in MN my entire life I sometimes get a little overconfident and think…come on..it's SNOW! MY mistake. It would have been better to stay home. Now I know why my dh insisted I have a shovel in the back of his van before I left. Didn't need it for us….but we did use it for someone else.

We're having a blizzard here today, too, Margaret. No cinnamon rolls, but hot, fresh bread with supper! 🙂

    So glad it's you all.
Way down south we're getting our cold snap too, just no'insulation' of snow.
Nothing like a hot baked goody after all the shoveling.

Oh my goodness. Here in Florida, we do hot real well, even the occasional hurricane. But, I can't begin to imagine dealing with this cold, frozen, bone numbing stuff. And, your pictures are amazing — unbelievable really. Sounds like a perfect day to cuddle up with a good book, or watch a Christmas classic or two.

We have had almost no snow here in Colorado which is really unusual. I'm hoping for a light winter, because my husband is going to be gone to a new job and I'll be here with the kids for this winter. Hope your home is warm and cozy – it sure looks like it is! I second the hope for you that you have all the coffee and diapers that you need. 🙂

That's a lot of snow! And we're all panicky about the four inches we're supposed to get here. 🙂

We just have cold, no snow. But I might have to make cinnamon rolls in solidarity!

Wow that's a lot of snow! We have rain today and it's 55°F. But I wouldn't mind being snowed in!

Wow that's a lot of snow. I have to say that I am jealous. It's just been cold, cold, and rainy here = yuck. It seems like it would be too cold to rain but rain it does. Hope you all had a cozy day after all that shoveling!

Hey Margaret,I'm hosting the carnival of homeschooling this week. 12 days theme and your post would be perfect. Could I add it in?

And forcasting more snow coming this week. This has certainly been a white winter so far. Although I'll take all this snow over the temperatures and wind chill we had earlier this week!
