A Week Among Weeks

This is what I found when I came downstairs this morning.

Groceries

My husband did the shopping after hours last night! It’s like Christmas!

Many years ago, my friend in Idaho (who is currently expecting her 10th child), told me how she had neither the time nor the energy for grocery shopping. I remember thinking at the time, “I could never let my husband do the shopping! What if he—gasp!—purchased the wrong brand or something?”

Look how far I’ve come, my friends.

I am so proud of me.

So yes. This is a week among weeks in terms of feast days. You need only click around the Catholic blogosphere (and I’m sure you have) to see that there is so much you could do in honor of all these saints and angels.

Today, for example, is one of my very, very, very favorite feast days: The Feast of the Mighty Archangels. (You have to hold up your fists when you say “mighty” and give them a victory pump or two.) I shuffled the kids out the door to Mass this morning, in part because I absolutely love the readings on this feast of feasts.

“War broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, but they did not prevail.” (Revelation 12: 7)

Wow. It’s enough to give you goose bumps, isn’t it?

This is one of those days where I wish—how I wish—that somehow, some way I could come up with the perfect lesson that would leave us all “getting it.” If only we could see more clearly the mystic beauty of the angels! If only we knew their power and strength; if only we loved like them.

Instead I’m left making chicken spaghetti (because—insert eye roll here—the Archangels help you not to be chicken) and Sinfully Good Angel Food Cake.

It’s a start, isn’t it?

It’s where I’m at and it’s what we can do today.

Something small…

with love…

for God.*

AMDG,

*Did you catch the reference to Friday’s saint? I knew you would.

I think your feast day plans sound wonderful. Mass, chicken, angel food and their mother's admiration for these mighty, heavenly protectors will be what your children will remember and love best about this feast day!

I love your feast day plans!

Also, I don't let my hubby do the grocery shopping for one reason…he blows the grocery budget! 🙂

Can't let my hubby shop!!! He asks things like "how many bananas?" I don't know, I just grab a big bunch….

Good job, I'm proud of you for letting him do it…maybe someday I'll let mine! 🙂

We'll have to make our devils food cake and poke it with our sword forks!

I was going to make an angel food cake, but 12 eggs! Ouch! I don't think my chickens would appreciate the pressure to provide for dessert and breakfast. I'll have to think up some other angelic dessert – or not.

I like what Therese said!! My husband blows the budget too, with things he "thinks" we need. Conversation the last time he went: "When was the last time I made liver honey???" His reply: "Ummmmmm, I can't remember. I don't think you ever made it in the whole time we were married???"
I don't do liver. Never have, never will. Thank You.

I was ordering on cobornsdelivers.com the other night and my husband actually suggested that since it's a bit much for my schedule to handle the whole thing alone that maybe our entire family should go together once a week to save money!

Not sure if it would save money – but it might be worth a try.

However, I would rather scrub toilets than go grocery shopping, seriously!

I love the Archangels! Such a strong visual they offer for the protection of our children. For twenty-four years now we've recited the same prayer at our children's bedsides.

Celebrating my children's steadfast protectors… angelfood cake…sounds like a good idea!

    Archangel Bedtime Prayer…

Blessed are You our God, who casts sleep upon my eyes and slumber upon my eyelids. May You lay me down to sleep in peace and raise me up in peace. Blessed are You who illuminates the entire world with Your Glory.

God of Israel, may the four archangels guard the corners of my bed. Michael at my right, Gabriel at my left, Uriel before me and Raphael behind me; and above my head the Presence of God. Amen

Oh… and don't forget… they day will not be complete without a rousing round of "Michael Row Your Boat Ashore"

Oops, see? I just realized your birthday is actually tomorrow….I always think it's on the feast of St Therese.

Well…I'm not on the computer on the weekends, so it's a early birthday wish!!!

    God bless
