A Letter to my 2nd Daughter on her First Holy Communion

May 16, 2010 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Felicity, Minnesota Me, Special Events 1 Comment

Dearest Felicity,

Today you will receive Our Lord for the first time. I am so happy for you! You have worked so hard this year to prepare your heart for Him and you should be very proud. Right now your heart is a beautiful garden and your guest will be arriving soon—so soon!

Do you know that He is just as excited as you are?

You may feel nervous and that’s okay. You may feel shy, and that’s okay too. The thing to remember is that Jesus is gentle and kind and patient and loving. He understands everything that you are feeling today and always. He loves you so much! He loves you even more than Mommy and Daddy do, which is hard to understand but it is true.

Jesus is and will always be there for you.

It’s exciting to think that after today, you may receive Him in the Eucharist every time you go to Mass! And if ever you have sins that get in the way, then rush to Jesus in the confessional first because we want our hearts to be as beautiful and pure as possible. Just like you went to confession last night, even though you said you didn’t think you had committed that many sins since your last confession. (You were probably right. You are a very good little girl.) Still, Jesus smiled when He heard your confession and He is pleased when you sweep away those little offenses, too.

Oh, how He smiles when we come to Him, Felicity. Oh, how He loves us.

I know that you love Him, too, and that your love will grow more and more after today. I am so proud of you! I am so happy for you! I love you, my daughter, so very much.

Yours in Jesus & Mary,

Mommy
