No More Naked Boppy

June 4, 2009 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Friends of the Heart, Gratitude, Minnesota Me, Motherhood, New Baby 19 Comments

A couple of weeks ago, a friend and I were having an email conversation about babies and breastfeeding. (Can’t imagine why.) She mentioned that when she sits down to nurse, she always has on hand a tall glass of water and a bobby.

“You have to tell me,” I wrote back immediately. “What in the world is a ‘bobby’?”

I could almost hear the laughter in her response. “I was really tired when I wrote that! What I meant to say was ‘boppy’.”

Being tired is a baby thing.

As you know.

Well, it didn’t take me long to purchase a plain white boppy at Target. Purchasing the boppy cover was not as easy, however—there were a handful of reasonably priced covers (the ones my husband would prefer I purchase) and then there were the “designer” ones.

These were the ones to which I was drawn. They were the few, the proud, the pretty, the pricey.

I left the store feeling conflicted over boppy covers…

…knowing full well I’d be back in a week to buy a pretty one.

Guess what? In the end I didn’t have to. When I told my friend about that pretty, pricey boppy cover, she straightaway asked to make a gift of it because that is the sort of beautiful, big-hearted person she is.

A Boppy for New Baby

It would appear that Anthony approves of her selection.

Thank you, sweetie pie friend of the heart! You’ve made a little boy and his mom most happy.

All for the greater glory of God,

I've never heard of a boppy before. But it's also a while since Ihad my kids. Looks like the perfect position fro breast feeding though. And for napping. What a little cuties he is.

I LOVED my boppy. Of course when I first used one (11+ years ago) they didn't have covers — just printed fabric on the pillow themselves. So there were basically 1 or 2 in the stores to pick from. But I used it so much that I needed a second one for the next baby — I guess a cover would help with that! But I used it for breastfeeding all the time. It was used to support the baby (I turned baby with his/her head on the "back" and the feet sticking through the opening.) With a baby with bad reflux, it helped to keep his head and shoulders elevated but supported. Then when they are a little bigger, it can be used to help support a just-sitting baby…I think Suzanne has a picture of that. All around, it was probably one of my best-used baby items!

I just realized that my comment wasn't clear! I used the boppy in diferent ways: 1) as a breastfeeding pillow; 2) to support reclining baby (when NOT breast feeding), and 3) to support sitting baby. I was afraid you'd try to imagine how I contorted myself to nurse a baby turned "backward" in it!

You have been blessed with some wonderful friends!

I've been getting lucky finding items like this at a local consignment shop that specializes in baby, children and maternity items.

OH goodness…I just love my boppy! I don't know how I could possibly have a baby without one! I always drag mine to the hospital with me, even though it's sort of big and the nurses look at me sideways for the size of my suitcase!
Your cover is just beautiful; what a wonderful friend!

What a gorgeous baby boy you have! WOw!
That's a nice Boppy cover. I loved my Boppy when I was nursing Aslynn, but then when the twins came I had to go with a gigantic twin nursing pillow which makes me laugh just thinking about it. I gave it away recently assuming I will not have another set of twins in the future (though I would be more than happy if my assumption is proven incorrect!).

Keep up the baby blogging. We love it!!

That's just too beautiful. I never had a boppy, and now I don't have a baby, either.

Beautiful bobby cover surrounding your most precious little man. Totally worth the cost (even if it was a gift). Now you can always look back at that photo.
