Go. See. Up.

June 7, 2009 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Family Fun, Minnesota Me, Reviews 14 Comments

I know you know that you should go, but I’m adding my review just ‘cause I want to.

You really must see this movie.

Grandma and Grandpa came to town yesterday and offered to take all the kids (minus one) to see it. They wanted to give us the afternoon off, I think, and seemed surprised when John and I tagged along.

[And then—cha-ching!—they paid our way, too. Thank you, Grandma and Grandpa!]

You will cry and you will laugh out loud. You will laugh out loud and then cry some more.* You will think, “These 3D glasses feel really weird.”

[That is, if you’re at the 3D version. I’ll leave that decision UP to you.]

[Provided you forgive me my really bad puns.]

Here’s what some of the locals had to say.

“I liked it when Dug said, ‘I would be happy if you stopped,’”

(Joe, age 11)

“I liked the dog that was chewing on the dinosaur bone,”

(Angela, age 4)

“I liked it when Dug said, ‘I don’t like the ‘cone of shame,’”

(Cate, age 8)

“Who’s doing the voice for the old guy? This is driving me crazy. Dang it, I know that voice from somewhere!”

(Margaret in Minnesota, aged to perfection)

[It was Ed Asner, by the way, and I had to wait ‘til the credits to get my answer. I hate it when that happens.]

So anyway, yeah.

Go see Up.

You won’t regret it.

*The guy on my left (who may or may not have been my husband) was swiping at his eyes by the end of the movie. The guy on my right (who may or may not have been my children’s grandpa), was doing likewise. Don’t tell them I told you.

We went to the matinee show on Thursday. My sister watched the girls and let us have a real date.

I agree with everything you said. Especially the crying. Oh my goodness the crying. (Though my husband was able to clue me in on the Ed Asner, so I wasn't in the dark on that.)

I took the kids to see it Friday! It was wonderful!

    (I didn't do 3D — I'm sort of a cinema purist…)

Aaah, we Australians will probably have to wait until Christmas for this movie! I am a Pixar addict!

    Cheers – Joolz

PS I am aged to perfection just slightly more than you! He he!

So many people are saying Thumbs Up for UP! I want to see it and maybe (heee heee) take my kids but those tix are so (argh!) expensive!!! so, DVD it may be.

As for you going- I am in awe! You took the baby too- that would just creep me out to take the little one along but I give you kudos! Did he cry (the baby!:)) and did you have to leave or did he sleep the entire time? 🙂

    God bless,

We saw it this weekend, too and it was wonderful! We saw the 3d version, four people, with drinks and popcorn and it was about $100.00. Yeah, I fainted at that too. I told the concession girl I might need to see a loan officer to pay for the snacks…….

I saw it last night. What a beautiful film! I sent dh with the little kids on Wednesday. It was dd's 16th birthday party. The kids liked it but the three year old was all over the place and now I understand why. This movie is a great movie but will not hold the attention of the littles like previous Pixar movies. Even Wall*E with it's lack of dialogue in the first half, held the attn of my then 2 and 4 year old but not Up. The two teens I went to see Up with loved it. They 'got' it.

OOps, logged in as dd. 😀

I take advantage of the newborn age to go to the movies. I pop them in a sling and they sleep through the whole thing! Once they are about 4 months old I can't take them to the movies and I can't leave them either so I am in a movie drought for at least another 9 months or more.

Hey, my 18 yr-old-son and I were both wiping our eyes. Great movie!

We just took out a little loan and took the whole family to see the movie.

    Oh!

    The tears.

And the dogs. Loved 'em. Loved the whole thing. Just had to come tell you. And, btw, that 6/22 picture of Anthony? To die for. So. Cute.
