After two weeks of holiday feasting and every sort of culinary excess, I am beginning Phase I of the South Beach Diet today.
Ask my husband if I’ve been…moody. Right now the kids are snacking on red & green malted milk balls and I am eating cold brussels sprouts with balsamic vinegar.
I eat them cold to pretend they’re ice cream. It’s not working.
The thing is, there’s never a good time to not eat sugar. You either force yourself to do it—for the sake of your health and your spreading hips—or you don’t. I’ve got to give it another go, though; I have to see if it’s humanly possible to go 14 whole days without (gasp!) even a piece of fruit or a carrot stick.
Is it? Check back in two weeks to see if I’ve caved or not.
And then send me a crate of apples.
Yours in time of feast and famine,

If I can do it, and I did, then you can do it too! One moment (or brussel sprout?) at a time. Onward …

Should you be on such a restrictive diet whilst trying to bring a new baby into the world, dear Maggie? There will be time for dieting later. Right now, it’s better to be healthy.

I agree with Jen and Jennie — dieting can wait!

I agree with Jennie. I was sort of surprised to see you decided to do it. Cutting back on sugar is good, but please promise you’ll stop. You’ll have plenty of time for that later!

Not to be a pain, but I did some poking around on the internet, and it says that if your are going to do SBD, to make sure your doctor knows, and to start in late Phase 2 or Phase 3. Do not do Phase 1. Forgive me if I’m out of line, but you’re waited so long for this precious child. Don’t worry about the extra weight for now. Focus on the beauty growing within you. I love you. 🙂

I agree with all the all ladies. Worry about the hips when that sweet little one is resting on them. That is why the Good Lord gave them to us!
