Thankful Thursday

November 20, 2008 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Gratitude, Minnesota Me 24 Comments

I am joining in on all the grateful fun that Diane has re-inaugurated this season. Here is my list—a partial list—of those things for which I’m thankful.

In thanksgiving for:

  • A hubby headmaster who took the day off from work today in order to take his five happy students (i.e. the entire school) to the orchestra. They will be relaxing to the sounds of Bach and Mozart while their momma teacher gets poked & prodded & blood-let at her first OB exam.

In thanksgiving for:

  • This first OB exam. It has been years since we’ve made it this far.

In thanksgiving for:

  • All of the notes of encouragement and joyful felicitations that we received in response to my “Yes!!!” post. You are an amazing bunch—so full of life, so committed to life. You make me want to break the news to my family. ; )

In thanksgiving for:

  • This pregnancy . Yes, yes, and yes to the gift of a child despite my doubts. Yes to the fatigue and the pukey feelings. Yes to the crankiness and the weight gain. Yes to it all, dear Lord. Thank you thank you thank you thank you.

In thanksgiving for:

  • Children who are cheerful when their momma is not, who give me hugs unlimited and unsolicited glasses of ice water, and who sing in the van.

In thanksgiving for:

  • Children who sing in the van and play round after boisterous round of Alphabet Bingo. The van’s stereo has been broken for over a month now and without our music and books-on-CD, I have been going just a wee bit mad.

In thanksgiving for:

  • The heat in this house despite the cold temps outside, the clothes on our back (and on our floors, and in our laundry bins) that keep us warm throughout the winter, and the food on our table—never to be taken for granted.

And on that note, in thanksgiving for:

  • Barbara’s cooking blog. She is a tried-and-true planner (and poster) at a time in my life when I am not. I can always pop over and get some good ideas for the week’s menu ahead. (These muffins, for example, were gobbled up by my gang in minutes.)

It’s appropriate, isn’t it, to end this list on a culinary note? Only one week to go until all this thanksgiving is “official.” Thanks to Diane, we do not have to wait until then to take note of it.

In Him and with Him and through Him in all things,

We heard a beautiful heartbeat at my appointment!

And the sun came out.

A tear came to my eye (o.k., more than one) at a heartbeat. Every night at dinner all of the children (and the parents) pray for Margaret’s baby. I can’t wait to tell them your news!

    (They were yummy, weren’t they?)

PRAISE GOD! I am so happy you heard the heartbeat! I have been praying for you, and will continue to do so!

Can you get one of those portable DVD players that plugs into the cigarette lighter? I don’t eve know if those exists, LOL, but it’s worth a shot!

I’m so happy everything is going well!

    Hi Margaret,

Congrats on hearing that precious little heartbeat!!!! I just want to start crying for you! Okay, already have LOL. Anyways, you’re probably in good hands if her name is Dr. Mary!

Can’t wait to the see the next post beneath this one… thought I saw some chips from Target? If so, I just bought my first bag of Archer Farms organic tortilla chips (on sale, and with a coupon of course!) and they are heavenly little creatures!

I am so happy about this baby! A few weeks ago you posted that you husband said the chances for a McCain presidency and a long pregnancy "weren't likely." I live in D.C. & there is a lot of President-elect coverage right now. Every time my heart gets sad about McCain's loss, I just think, "well, if we could only have one miracle in November, I'm so happy God gave Minnesota Mom an extra healthy baby." So thanks for keeping a smile on my face as I triple up my prayers for our President-elect to have a complete change of heart.
