I’m getting old.

October 15, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Anecdotal, Living Liturgically, Minnesota Me, Motherhood 7 Comments

And this is how I know: I slept in until 7:00 a.m. this morning!

Should I call the doctor?

Then—to my further embarrassment and shame—when I got to the coffee pot (which is always my first stop of the day) there was a note (which is always where my husband leaves them, because he knows that they’ll be SEEN) that read:

Wake husband PLEASE.

Which I would have done, if husband wasn’t already up, and showered, and dressed, and working on his laptop at the dining room table.

For a morning person, this is cause for concern. Early morning hours are what I do! 5:15 a.m. is my favorite time of day, but not so much if I sleep through it.

I’m thinking of these things as I quietly slurp my coffee and try not to lament the loss of the past 3 hours.

I’m thinking of these things…

…as I read about the funny remarks of nocturnal people (whose ranks, evidently, I’m about to join);

…as I think about the saint of the day—our dear St. Teresa!—and of my love for her;

…and I’m thinking of these things as I pray her prayer:

“Lord, deliver me from sullen saints.”

To which I add: And from a former morning person who can’t wake up.

Ad Jesum per Mariam,

    I think old people get up earlier, so you’re not old, just tired! Take what you can get, sister!

    Hmmm, I seem to remember reading a little while back just how “not old” you are! LOL! Just consider the extra sleep a blessing, have more coffee, and pick up your day where you are. (And be thankful that you didn’t have to have kids outside for the school bus at 7:25–that’s MY world, and a big motivation to get up on time)

    Not to worry. 7 a.m. is way too early for a truly nocturnal person to get up. I vote for you needed a little extra sleep. Bless your husband for knowing that and not disturbing you.

    I’m NOT a morning person and thankfully, neither are any of my kids. 7AM?! Everyone in this house was still sound asleep. 🙂

    My grandparents were polar opposites. One set slept in until 10 am and the other woke at 4am because…it’s what farmers do.

    You’re too hip to be old!

    My snooze button was NEVER EVER used in my life until recently. My problem is that I LOVE to stay up late and I NEED to wake up early. In between those short hours, I MUST get some sleep.

    Your not old Margaret … just busy and tired. It could ALSO be that it’s still so dark early in the mornings. I think we need daylight savings to end (I think that date is November 4th).
