If Chris Hewitt of the St. Paul Pioneer Press Pans a Movie…

June 23, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Family Fun, Minnesota Me, Reviews 12 Comments

…then I know I’m good to go.

Which I did last night with my sweetie-pie friend and her son (who slept through it all, but hey, he’s an infant).

Evan Almighty is both biblical and family-centered, which is why it annoys the secular media. There is nothing offensive at all in the film—no swearing, no sex, no disrespect— although there is a splatter or two of bird poo.

There is also a ton of humor, a lot of love and a totally cool perspective of the ark and all the animals. (So that’s how Noah did it! Good for him.)

And good for us.

Take the whole family if you can. I know that we’ll be going.

3.5 stars out of 4.

I thought this one looked cute. I haven’t seen Bruce Almighty, have you?

No, Jennie, I haven’t seen Bruce Almighty. I was put off by its PG-13 rating and the warning “Sexual Content and Some Crude Humor.”

I am so not into crude humor, and haven’t watched any of the Shrek films for that reason.

What I’ve heard regarding Evan Almighty is that with this one, the director wanted to make a film for the whole family.

    Guess what? He did.

Sounds great! I hope we get a chance to see it too.

Oh. I don’t mind the “crude humor”, as long as it’s not at the dinner table, but I don’t think the word “sexual” belongs anywhere near a children’s/family movie. Thank you for the review!

Really?? It was good? I saw Bruce Almighty, and while it had it’s funny moments, it wasn’t one I’d ever recommend…

Wow… I’ll have to give it a shot, then! Thank you for the good review!

How I would love to take the whole family to a movie and feel good about it! Thanks, Margaret. 🙂

So glad to read your recommendation! I’ve got company coming for a week and with temps in the mid-high 90s a going to the theater will be a great treat! My dd, 6, has only been twice – Ice Age 2 and Cars. She was laughing and so enjoying herself (because it was such a treat) that a couple of “jaded” kids in our section kept looking at her when she laughed!

I took my 2 girls ( 18 and 14) and we all LOVED it. DEfinitely could have brought their little brother (10). Highly recommend.

Oh!! Did you see, did you see, did you see the mountains in the background? And the pretty scenery all around? Those were OUR mountains, our scenery! The movie was filmed in the town we just left behind. Lots of my neighbors were extras. Did you see them? LOL LOL.

Hee, hee. I can handle a poo joke or two under the right circumstances. Hey, who’s the patron saint of hardrives? I need to know!
