The Biggest and Best Pro-Life Raffle in Town

June 9, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Gratitude, Minnesota Me, Prolife, Special Events, Spiritual Growth 2 Comments

Continues today through Monday.

Do you think that you don’t make a difference? Do you think that God doesn’t care about your efforts? Well, you’re wrong.

One woman started this raffle.

One woman started this home.

One woman chose to have her baby.

One more soul…forever.

I have personal ties to the St. Gianna Maternity Home. The director and founder, Miss Mary Pat Jahner, is an old friend from my college days. She is a beautiful woman with amazing drive, working quietly (We’re talking North Dakota, people) and yet, tirelessly, for the glory of God and for the advancement of His Kingdom.

The rector at the home, Father Hils, is one of the best priests I have ever known…and goodness knows we need great priests! He was one of my favorite confessors when I was a student and of course, heard the occasional “whopper”.

Which he took in stride and in his typically straightforward, God-is-good-now-go-in-peace- your-sins-have-been-forgiven fashion.

My favorite story is when I began my confession by freaking out; I had lost my list of sins on the way into the confessional!

“Well,” Father Hils responded mildly, “Did this list have your name on it?”

“No…” I stammered.

“Well, then, what are you worried about?”

And really, therein lies the rub.

What are we worried about? Today, my friends, let us go in peace.

Thanks be to God.

That’s funny Margaret. We used to write our sins down and drop them into a deep sewer outside the church afterward.

I bring a list sometimes, mainly for general confession at retreat because it is just oh so incredibly long…lol. Great post. Isn’t it fantastic how many moms and babies are being helped?
