This is where I rail.
The FDA has approved a birth control pill that ends a woman’s monthly period.
According to an article published in the Washington Post, “Lybrel is designed for women who find their periods too painful, unpleasant or inconvenient and want to be free of them.”
What a wonderful world it will be when we women are delivered from everything that is too painful, too unpleasant, and too inconvenient. Thank you, Doctor. You clearly have my best interests in mind (if not in pocket).
I would have never thought that “science” would go so far as to mock human biology and hope we buy it. The scary thing is, some women are.
Thanks to PP.
“Every woman’s birth control needs are different, said Vanessa Cullins, vice president for medical affairs at the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, “And the best methods are those that fit a woman’s lifestyle.”
Completely suppressing our menstrual cycle is considered to be best for us? Perhaps it is, if being a man is what we’re after.
Don’t be fooled for a minute. It’s not about us. It’s about not conceiving babies. It’s about aborting them if we do.
These people care nothing for women.

OK, that is just scary.

Well-said, Margaret…
That pill is just too gross…

I read that yesterday in tears… it was so vague on information (msnbc)… like is this pill too an abortifacient? The whole masculation of woman is just, well, evil, as you said.

Good grief. What will they do next? Ah, Planned Parenthood. Always our best interests at heart. Not. Thanks for the post. I’m going to link it to a few of my friend.

Wow, what next? If anyone is interested you can get a book on the evils of Planned Parenthood, from the very beginning, called “Grand Illusions” (I cannot find my copy now, so all I can give is the title, sorry) We also try to do the boycott to our best ability. If anyone is interested in the Planned Parenthood Boycott, go to http://www.fightpp.org Every little thing helps. Thanks for posting this Margaret. The sad thing about PP is to most people, it is a good place, a good thing. Forgive them father, they know not what they do.

Yeah what is going to happen when the pill fails, they get pregnant, and they don’t know it because they never get a period anyway? They’ll keep drinking, smoking, and not taking vitamins. Sick moms, sick babies. This is a great idea.

I wish all of those organic folks would get a clue…..and join the fight!
How healthy can it be to supress our cycle?
Good point, Beth (above)

Absolutely agree. Here in a very red state, we had builders and contractors refuse to build for them. It was awesome.

It is horrible that someone would think of their own fertility as inconvenient.

Amen, Margaret!
You are so perfectly correct, as usual. I always love your blog…so honest, so real, and so sincere. You are a beautiful soul and I wish I lived next door to you.

Beth’s point was echoed in an article I read by a female OBGYN. However, her point was that because there is no cycle, they will not know they are pregnant in sufficient enough time to, in her words, “do something about it”. Shudder! She’s not worried about babies not getting adequate care. She’s more worried about the mother being saddled with the baby himself – and this from an OB!
And they claim to care about women and babies!

Your post is well thought and well written.
There has been a lot written about the pill lately and the more you learn, the more there is to be concerned about. These are some of the things I have been made aware of during the past week or so:

…and ten years down the road when there are many infertile young women trying to conceive after taking this pill through the most fertile years of their lives??? Oh, it’s gonna be ugly!! Very ugly!!

Right on, sister!

I wish I could say that is SHOCKING, but nothing suprises me. HOW TERRIBLY SAD!
The Pill is Sick says
I so agree. Lots of people just don’t get me when I tell them I’m not on the pill, and never plan to be. I like having my periods, although I can’t exactly say I ‘enjoy’ them, I still woulnd’t want them taken away.
Geez, how screwed up — popping pills all the time to screw up your hormones. YUCK!
