Mars and Venus in the Mathroom

May 1, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Anecdotal, Homeschooling, Minnesota Me 11 Comments

My boys, when asked to draw pretty much anything for their Saxon Math assignment, hastily scribble “x” amount of smudgy circles on their paper and move on.

My daughter, however, is different. When I went to check on her work today—a full fifteen minutes after she began it—I found that she was stuck on the second question. The “draw five pairs of earrings” problem was proving to be, well, problematic.

She had carefully drawn 3 pairs of earrings and was just sitting there.

“Maria,” I asked, “What’s the matter?”

“I can’t think of any other ones,” she sighed. “These are your pearly bead earrings. These are like Mrs. Potato Head earrings. And these are your really beautiful ones…”

Another ten minutes later and she had finished.

Finally—and to her great artistic satisfaction—she had finished.

Oh, that is my Scarlett to a ‘T’! She takes FOREVER to do a simple problem, but it is alway correct and drawn with great detail.

I love it! We are a house full of X makers here. I’ve never seen such detail for a math problem. 😉

That’s sweet. We wouldn’t have that problem here.
