I am bleary eyed but happy.
We were up late putting the finishing touches on our May Day baskets. They are not very complicated little ensembles, but we did hand stamp the nametags and that was time-intensive.
Long story short: we will be delivering these at 6:00 a.m. (before our school friends leave for the day) and so I’d better get cracking on this post.
Last night I subjected my children to a bit of speech at dinner. The month of May is here and I’m excited! The month of May is mysterious; the month of May is full of promise. Our Mother Mary is such a wonderful, powerful intercessor, and we have a whole month of special graces there for the blooming!
My pregnancy with Stephen is one example. He was due on June 8th but I was aching to have a May baby. Before going to bed on May 30th, my husband and I prayed fervently: Please, Mary. Tomorrow is your feast day. Please intercede that this little one is born.
I went into labor at 4:00 a.m. or so. Stephen was born that morning on the Feast of the Visitation. (Ha. I kept calling on Mary during the pain of my contractions, and the lovely nurse, whose name was Meredith, kept rubbing my arm and saying, “I’m here. I’m here.”)
Never be shy when it comes to requesting anything of Our Lady.
Here are some links for you before I go:
Dawn made a couple of perfectly lovely handmade baskets. You may admire them over at her place.
My friend Sarah has a beautiful new blog, Dancin’ with Babies. She has linked to some excellent Marian resources for our May celebrations.
If you haven’t yet made your baskets but want to, my friend Mary left a comment with an excellent link to a resource that I missed yesterday. The pictures alone are worth your while.
And finally, let’s not forget our favorite quiet man. Today is also the feast of St. Joseph the Worker. For more info on how to honor him, (not that most of you need it), here is the link to CatholicCulture. We love you, too, St. Joseph!
Have a beautiful day. Have a blessed month of May.
Postscript: Well, we got caught in the act but we didn’t get kissed! Some of us were not, shall we say, as stealthy as Mom would have liked. When we returned home there were five little baskets hanging on the door! If that was you, we thank & bless you!

Wonderful post! I don’t have too much time for creativity these days, but you’ve inspired me to at least take the kids for a walk and pick some flowers for Our Lady.
