It’s 5:00 p.m. in Minnesota. I don’t know what you have going on in your state, but over here we’re baking our“Election Day Cake!”
This tradition is not long-standing, going back only two years to the 2004 Presidential election. Here’s the story: my dear neighbor Brenda came by with a meal for us, as Baby Camille was, well, pretty much a brand-new baby. To this day I remember that feast: a big roast beef & mashed potatoes with gravy…a couple sides of vegies…and cake. A gorgeous, enormous chocolate cake. It was the mother of a newborn’s dream meal–heck, any mother’s, for that matter.
Not surprisingly, it didn’t take me long to get to dessert. Meanwhile, the whole house was alive and alight with festivity as we anxiously awaited the results of the election. My husband is one to stay up ’til the very last moment, hitting “Refresh. Refresh. Refresh.” on his computer to stay on top of the polls. I finally passed out on the sofa only to be woken two hours later by my husband’s happy whisper: he’s in. Our man is in! Oh, what a relief and a joy to know he’d made it. And what better excuse could there be to have that second piece of chocolate cake?
Here’s praying for favorable results tonight! And I do mean pray!

I will pray for the right man/woman to get the job. Because God only knows who the right man/woman is anymore! 🙂

We’ll take chocolate cake leftovers.
