Deliver Us From…

October 1, 2015 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Just Me, Motherhood, Well-Read Mom 5 Comments

Pick your poison, ’cause on any given day that’s what I do. When we pray the Our Father as a family, and we DO do this, every night before bed, I cling to that last request like nobody’s business.

Deliver us, Lord, from all sorts of evil. Deliver us from bickering kids. Deliver us from fear and feeling overwhelmed. Deliver us from envy…and selfishness…and bad coffee.

Ha.

Here’s a joke, the latest one from my six-year-old:

“What’s taller than the Statue of Liberty, Mom?”

“I dunno.”

365 (Day 266)

“Me on top of the Statue of Liberty!”

I’ve mentioned this once or twice or a couple hundred times, but I totally love my six-year-old.

How’s your life going? Are you struggling with your own long list of “Deliver me from…?”

* * *

Here’s a sweet picture that I took yesterday:

365 (Day 273)

My Cate on her way into confirmation class!

She’s the third of my children to prepare for this sacrament and I’ll tell you…I wish that it came with a guarantee—a guarantee that not only will they be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit, they will also never EVER stray.

This mothering gig is not for the weak.

In other news, you may have noticed that there were a thumping lot of comments on my last post. There’s a reason for this, and it’s not that I’m suddenly super popular.

Nope, not that.  Rather, I joined a “commentathon” over at Blogelina’s which meant leaving 50-plus comments in exchange for 50 comments.

It was fun but a thumping lot of work.

* * *

Two things—no, three—that I am loving:

  • My husband, as always. He keeps me grounded.

Father Son Moment

  • Being outside. That, too, keeps me grounded.

Flora Fauna I

Flora Fauna II

  • And the book, Shadows on the Rock, which is the Well Read Mom selection of the month and which is, in my humblest of literary opinions, Willa Cather at her finest. (And I love Willa Cather.)

Happy month of October, my friend!

(Tomorrow’s my birthday!)

(49!)

(Big yikes.)

    Lord, deliver me from procrastination. Please.
    Oh say, I am appreciating your last book recommendation. I got it from the library and am determined to start some daily habits to structure my day. I think, the lack thereof, is why at the end of the day I am exhausted from making decisions.
    Love that picture of Cate. So sweet.

    I am very thankful for the well read mom recommendation. I loved the Willa Cather’s book. This club is like good exercise for my brain and it is so refreshing. Thank you for your blog. I am praying for the deliver med too. For a fun stream of conscience book, I’ve found Jen Hatmaker to be very refreshing-Jesus, family, friends and wine. Sometimes I take myself way too seriously and Jen makes me laugh.

    Deliver me from arguing with a hormonal 13 yo girl — or biting when she offers the bait. She’s going to school next year or I fear we will never like each other again. Dad decided for us.

    PS I missed this post because your blog never updates in my sidebar.
