Weigh-In Wednesday is back!

July 16, 2014 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Health & Wellness, Just Me, Minnesota Me, Spiritual Growth, Weigh-In Wednesday 14 Comments

And this is why.

You know how today is the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (one of my favorites, btw) and how, back on July 16, 1251,  Mary appeared to St. Simon Stock holding a scapular? Well, it was kind of like of that.

I was sitting at my computer desk minding my own business.

When, all of a sudden and out of the {Marian} blue…

God spoke to my heart and said, “Get off your butt.”

And so I did. And so I am.

I can’t tell you, my friend, how good it feels! (Apparently, though, I’m going to try.) It feels really, really good! Even if it’s just…you know…going out for “a run” and needing to walk most of it. Baby steps! Any steps! Because believe me, getting out the door in laced-up shoes is more than half of the {mental} battle. Way more than half, I’m finding out.

I’m not going to do a link-up this week because, in all honesty, just sitting down to this blog post took a huge commitment. I’ve been running away (same theme, different metaphor) from blogging in general while I work out some kinks in my personal life.

Like…time management kinks.

And growing in holiness kinks.

And that enormous pile of stuff on the dining room table, Maggie? You really REALLY need to make sense of it.

Meanwhile, I’ve got my first 5K coming up on Saturday (!) and, God willing, I won’t pass out. Thanks to the books above and my husband’s gentle nagging encouragement, I have worked my way up to 3.1 miles on the treadmill…but doing this in an outdoor race environment?

Well, let’s just say that I might not be posting photos. ; )

Good for you! I've started running a bit again too – it always feels good to have run – harder to get motivated to start. I'm no where near ready to run a 5K though – so good for you! I'll be cheering you on from NJ!

Great job running! Keep it up! How did you end up choosing THIS race? Cheri

It was actually pretty random, Cheri. I was at the surgeon's in March with my son and one of the nurses mentioned it. I thought, "Unlimited bacon? A free Bloody Mary? I don't have to worry about it until July? Count me in!"

Except now it's July and I gotta worry about it. : P

Good for you Margaret! That is awesome that you are doing a 5K. I keep thinking that I should get that treadmill but it just hasn't happened. I am almost down to my pre-pregnancy size but my muscle is gone (except in my arms because my little guy is rather chubby, lol). Good luck on Saturday – I'll say a prayer for you.

Way to go! I love the positive energy I hear in this post!! Have FUN at your race! You WILL cross that finish line (no matter how fast or how slow), and that is a huge accomplishment! xo

Good luck, Maggie! I'm proud of you for giving it a go.

Also, the pile of books about running? Quite funny. 🙂

That's the thing about us sanguine/melancholics, Jennie C–half measures are NOT our problem! It's the follow-up that gets us.

Go, girl, go! You are going to be great! If I can do it, anyone can do it. Your book pile is missing the Another Mother books by Dimity McDowell and Sarah Bowen Shea.

Oh Mary Lisa, I just checked out those books on Amazon and they're wonderful! Their conversational style and "ma-thetic" approach to running is just—and I mean JUST–what my book pile needed. : )

Also? When and where can we go for a run together?
