The Story of a {Tortured} Soul

June 12, 2014 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Honest Blogging, Just Me, Minnesota Me, Spiritual Growth 12 Comments

Why yes, yes I am.

Why do you ask?

Well, there’s that whole “Should I blog or should I stop” thing. It’s getting kind of old, you know.

I DO know that. I didn’t mean for that post to get published!

Seriously? Then why did you?

I was drunk.

Okay, that’s scandalous.

I know. I plan to confess it as soon as possible. Would it help if I told you I didn’t drive? And that I had my husband here to look after me?

Poor guy.

I know. One minute I was giddy and the next, a complete wreck.

What happened? Why’d you drink so much? I mean, it’s not like you had just cause or anything.

Well…

.: Recipe for a Blogging Disaster :.
Serves One
Go to 5:30 p.m. Mass with your husband.
On the way home, try not to dwell on the guy who wouldn’t shake your hand
at the Sign of Peace. Fail.
Suggest to your husband that you stop by the liquor store.
So you can, you know, make that yummy pasta that calls for red wine.
Add 1/2 cup of red wine to the sauce.
Decide that it might be nice to have a glass before supper.
(Like you hadn’t planned on that all along.)
Think about your daughters that are at camp this week.
Beat yourself up over not writing them a letter.
Think about your little man and your weaning him
cold turkey when you went on retreat.
Think about his being your last, probably.
Decide that it might be nice to have a second glass of wine.
Call your sister so she can cheer you up.
Listen to how she visited your mom that day, and how
“it’s such a blessing that she lives so close.”
Hang up.
Decide that writing will cheer you up.
Think, “I’m just like Hemingway! I drink! And I write!”
Think about where that behavior got Hemingway.
Start to edit a pretty flower photo
to go with a cheerful re-cap from your retreat.
Grow restless and distracted.
Click around aimlessly to see what other people are writing.
Grow discouraged.
Publish a completely different blog post than the one that you intended to write.
 Call it a day.
Go to bed and cry.

And thus, the title of this post! Yes, Michelle and Jennie C., I’m a true melancholic and a drama queen to boot. (See comments on unintentional blog post.) Please please forgive me; I know I try people’s patience. The good news, though, is that I’m learning humility!

Gosh, am I ever.

I’m getting pruned like mad.

The good news is, I have always believed that tortured souls get the best spots in heaven. Remember that prodigal son? They slaughtered the fatted calf for him. You'll have an awesome party when you get there. Just HANG ON! There will be red wine. In moderation, of course.

Wow! I'm impressed that a mere 2 glasses of wine gets you drunk! Sorry to say it takes a lot more than that to get me drunk:((( 2 glasses is my nightly habit. Anyway, I love your blog. Please don't stop blogging. I don't comment as much as I used to because I'm usually reading your blog from my IPhone or Ipad and it's too cumbersome to comment there. So don't take silence as proof that nobody cares.

Your honesty is so refreshing! And I agree with Barbara. Have you read anything from St. Fautina's Dairy?

Anyway, so glad you are still blogging! You would be missed!

OMG! I think I sat next to that same guy at Mass once!
And his wife is blogging right now about Catholics who hold hands during the Our Father. (FUN couple those 2! Fun!)

    I seriously love your blog.

I confess myself bewildered. I thought your blog post was a mild and perfectly reasonable question. I'm sure bloggers everywhere ask it of themselves frequently – I know I do. Infact, just about every week you see the same kind of post turn up on different blogs. It's not a sign of melancholy or drama. It's metablogging. It's interesting. It's a good – and dare I say it, *important* question.

You don't try my patience even slightly.

Had to pop over after seeing a picture of the orange mustache on that adorable face in a friend's blog role. Loved this post so much. So kind of hoping you keep blogging, though I totally understand the question to self. I'll check back. šŸ™‚

Seriously, two glasses gets you drunk? Well, you are a short little thing (so am I) but I need more than two glasses to get really sloppy.

As for blogs, my poor blog is half-dead and limping, but I'd love to revive it. There's always room for another blog, and usually room for another glass of wine, unless you are under five feet tall….

About the man who wouldn't shake your hand: He might have been someone like me, as I hate the handshake for various reasons and do my best to avoid it (often failing). Now, if you saw him shake the hands of others, then…nevermind, and sorry! Hope you are feeling better.
