Postcards from the Edge of Peace

June 16, 2014 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Gratitude, Minnesota Me, Special Events, Spiritual Growth, The Faith 6 Comments

I say “the edge” because peace is elusive…

“Why is God my Lord? Because He is my creator and I am His creature.”

….at least in this world, it is…

“At death we must leave everything.
Let’s make the most of our time.
Let us not die empty-handed.”

…but this retreat…

Retreat III“Let us place ourselves sincerely and honestly before God to see what He is asking of us.”

….with these awesome priests…

“It is a step from mediocrity to perfection.
If I want to be generous, if I want to do something great, I can!”

…brought me very, very close to that edge.

(On a side note:  My friend Lynn was the retreat assistant!  It was SO hard to observe the silence whenever I passed her in the hall.)

We made ten meditations in all. There was Mass; there were hymns; there was prayer; there was quiet. Also? Not ONCE did anyone ask me to make them a sandwich! I found this very liberating.

Long story  weekend short…

Where is Walda?
I highly recommend following the Spiritual Exercises and making a retreat with the Miles Christi priests.  HIGHLY recommend.  We were 36 women drawing closer to God. We were 36 women who, for three days, didn’t speak.
(And that there is your proof.)

(Miracles do happen!)

All for the greater glory of God,

Margaret, I loved retreating with you. Even though we didn't talk. I would spot you walking or praying … It is a special place: to be alone with God and yet surrounded by women you are making the retreat with … I recognize those quotes. They are near to my heart, as I enter back into the life God has called me to live … and in which I am called to live out what penetrated my heart through the Spiritual Exercises. I am thinking of and praying for you! Let's get together! xo

Oh my goodness, we love these two priests! Fr. John is the best and I love his talks. I've been doing MC retreats for the past 8 years and they are life changing. Make sure you follow your resolutions and then go back again next year. I am so happy that you had a chance to experience this. We are fortunate to live in Chicago because Fr. John and Fr. Paul come here once a month and do an evening of recollection. This really helps to keep me on track and I know I'll get a good confession in. These are very powerful retreats, so try hard to follow the inspirations you received during it! God bless you!

Oh Laura, you are SO blessed to be in the Chicago area and get to hear the MC priests monthly! My husband and I have been attending the Spiritual Exercises with the MC priests for about 4 or 5 years. The retreats are life changing, I agree!! Last spring, Fr. John stayed with us while he was in MN and blessed our house. He is the best, I agree with that, too! šŸ™‚ (Just had to chime in here! šŸ™‚

I don't know where Walda is, but I see my friends Lisa Cash, Kim Hansen, and Sarah!! (above)

I kind of yearn for something like this….but never can seem to get away!! Good for you Maggie, glad it was fruitful!

I love, love, love Father Paul and Father John!!! Miles Christi is just awesome! We live in NW Ohio. We only get to see them several times a year, but I've been on three of their silent retreats – highly recommend them!! Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
