…a first sacrament.
My husband is so embarrassed that I should blog this photo. I maintain that you can and will relate! (Well, perhaps 90% of you.) Yesterday was wonderful, spiritual, fun-filled and exhausting. After our guests left at 3:00 p.m. or so, I retired to this room to (you’re hoping I’m going to say “to clean”, aren’t you?) take a nap, and did not emerge until a full three hours later. And apart from the boys, who were playing outside, I was the first one up!
We then settled in with a plate of ham sandwiches and leftover cake while watching a family movie. Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium was so good that we had to pause the DVD often—to play with the dog, to run around on the lawn, to laugh on the phone with Grandma and Grandpa, to eat more cake.
My favorite line from the movie echoed perfectly the awe, the beauty and the joy of the past day:
And so I am, in tackling the amazing mess in my bedroom.
And so I am, in preparing my daughter’s First Communion post. (There will be lots of photos, I promise!)
And so I will, in rising to the occasion and the gift that is our life together.
See you soon.
Ad Jesum per Mariam,

I am giving you a standing ovation. That’s EXACTLY what my bedroom looks like any time we have a party, go to church, wake up… It’s the catch-all room, especially when we all have to look nice at the same time. You are awesome! I was hoping for some photos of a pretty little girl in a white dress, but these will do. For now. 🙂

Thank you so much for keeping it real! Almost my whole house is in that shape (or worse) after my 6-year-old’s birthday party here at home yesterday afternoon. So what am I doing this morning… cleaning up? Obviously, checking my email came first. Thanks for helping me know I’m not the only one!

Good for you! Let your husband know that is how my entire house looks at the moment. (Our weekend was that good-no one was around to clean!) And we too watched that movie for Friday night movies – it was a pleaser. Happy clean-up Monday!

Tell Hubby that my bedroom looks exactly the same and we did not have any such festivities. We have been under construction followed by under the weather. I’d post a picture but I am still feeling too “bleh” to move.

Yes – I can relate. Monday is cleaning day because after a “restful” Sunday, our house is always a wreck… (just taking a quick nursing/blogging break).

Well, the only thing that REALLY looks out of place is the ice scraper. Everything else normally belongs in the bedroom anyway. 😉

Thanks for keeping it real!!!! Nice to see these photos first actually! After my son’s first Communion (2 weeks ago) I was SO exhausted on Monday, that we declared it “no school today” day and we did nothing!! Mama was tired!!
Take a holiday today too!

Awesome, my room looks the same…
Thanks

That is so like my house. Thank you for being the kind of gal who is human. I love posts like these…normal life.

Oh so real! Except we had one guest till 8:30! (she depends on van services)and all needed tubs because the night before the city flushed evey hydrant. Not one First Communion kid had a ‘day of’ shower. (They still looked fabulous)

I’m glad you took a nice long nap. You must have really needed it. 🙂 And, messes will always be there, no matter what. So they can wait. Glad you had such a wonderful and blessed day!

We loved that movie too – I splurged and took the kids to see it when it was in theaters. Thanks for the reminder of that awesome line “Your life is an occasion; rise to it”. I can hear Mr. Magorium saying it in my ear. I will remember that this week as I pack our family of 11 for our annual trip to the beach, a mere 13.5 hour drive. It is so easy to look at all the preparing and traveling as a CHORE, rather than a GIFT. Your post reminded me that I should rise to this occasion and remember that a vacation at the beach with all of the kids is truly a gift. We leave the day after Mother’s Day (and Pentecost)…..now I’m getting excited! 🙂

I love the fact that your ice scraper is on the floor!!! Gosh, it reminds me of my house when my kids were little! Gee, what’s my excuse now?? HAHAHA!! Glsd to see there are lots of “messies” here!

Been there.
You’re the 2nd person to recommend that movie.
BTW, for Our Lady’s month I am going to try to blog mostly about Mary. Join me, if you’d like with images, quotes and personal devotions to honor Our Blessed Mother. 🙂

I’m waiting to see if Margaret happened to catch my son in any of her photos before I bother blogging First Communion. 🙂
All our family’s out of town, so the only guests we had were the other son’s godparents and their kids. So we kept it small. Usually, our family eats the traditional German-American Catholic carryout-sushi lunch after every first sacrament. But the sushi place was closed so we picked up barbecue instead. This made Oscar cry, so we had to promise to take him out for sushi later this week.

Yay, Margaret!!! My room is identical and I often think I am the only one that just can’t keep up with it all.
Thanks so much for the visual…it’s giving me drive to tackle my own mountain 🙂

I’m one of the 90% who can identify with your bedroom pic. My 6 year old was looking over my shoulder and said, “Hey we have that same laundry basket, but we don’t put shoes in ours.”
