True Love

February 14, 2012 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Gratitude, Marriage, Minnesota Me, Special Events 13 Comments

Is there a Valentine’s card that can capture–really capture–the love & commitment behind something like this?

True Love

Not really.

True love is complicated.

The Fam

True love is hard.

The Fam

True love doesn’t often last 65 years!

It’s true. My mom and dad have been married for 65 years, and on January 29th, we kids got together. Keep in mind that when I say “we kids”, I mean…

…enough kids & grandkids & great-grandkids to fill a church.

(Okay, so we didn’t exactly fill the church at Mom & Dad’s anniversary Mass. We could have, though, if we’d all been there!)

Aren’t they sweet? This was during the blessing of their marriage.

And then, after Mass, we went back to the house–the home that I lived in for most of my life, the home where a large chunk of my heart still is.

Dakota II

It’s a smallish house but we make it work.

It gets crowded but in an aren’t-we-incredibly-blessed? kind of way.

In addition to all the feasting & family & joking & laughter, we presented my mom & dad with a scrapbook full of pictures and letters.

Remember when I went to go see my Aunt Tuna? (She’s my mom & dad’s double niece.) That visit is in there! Surprise! Surprise!

Surprises are fun, do you not find?

Heartwarming letters full of love and memories? Even better.

Happy Saint Valentine’s Day, everyone! I pray that your family, your marriage, your children, your life…

…be blessed with an everlasting love.

How beautiful and heart-warming! Your family is an inspiration of love. (And its astonishing how much young Margaret looks like her daughters!)

What a beautiful tribute to your parents!! What an amazing couple. Is their anniversary the 29th? That was my parents' anniversary, too. They would have celebrated 46 years together this year, but my mom passed away last year. I also live too far away from my childhood home and a big piece of my heart is still there as well!! Thank you for sharing!
