Is Big Brother watching me?

January 19, 2012 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Just Me, Minnesota Me, Motherhood, Pregnancy 33 Comments

This is NiNi, otherwise known as my 2-year-old George.

Is he a big brother?

I don’t know!

Maybe yes…and maybe no…and maybe I’m driving you crazy–yes?–with all this rampant speculation. I’m sorry! It’s just that I’ve been busy–VERY busy–and haven’t been able to get to the store for The Test.

Plus the plan was to get one from my friend Lynnie at church last night, where our sweet little 2nd graders had their First Confession interviews. Both Angela and her son did fine, just fine. (I know you were concerned for them.)

Alas, I wasn’t able to make it.

Instead, I was visiting with my cousin Eileen, (aka Tuna), because I am doing some work on our family tree and she invited me over to share some stories. Eileen’s father is my mother’s brother, and Eileen’s mother is my father’s sister.

My Cousin Tuna with Felicity

Got that? It’s a small town thing.

Anyway, I spent a delightful hour at her table listening and taking notes. So cool. For example, I found out why her nickname is Tuna. She was a very small girl growing up, just like my Felicity, and her dad used to say, “I’m going to stick you in my pocket and take you to town! You’re my little Petunia!” Petunia got shortened to “Tuna” and there you go.

I just love this sort of thing, don’t you? Or would you rather I just shut up? Would you rather I do other things than blog–things like driving to Target to buy The Test?

It will be six weeks tomorrow since my last cycle.

TMI? According to you, it’s not enough!

See, that's the beauty of homeschooling — you call the shots, as in: "okay kids, time for a break from lessons so Mama can run an errand — everybody go pee and get your boots on!"

    Easy peasy.

{{hugs}} (I don't know if you feel this way, but I remember sometimes waiting to test because a negative meant I had to stop thinking I **could** be)

Oh my gosh, you are totally driving your reader MAD!!!

But I did very much fell during years of infertility, that getting my cycle was way better than seeing another negative test.

That hopeful feeling is just so fun.

    Hoping for you!

The "sparkle" is just as exciting as any cliffhanger. The suspense is killing me.
Saying some prayers for you no matter how the test finally turns out.
    God Bless.

This post is the very definition of dastardly. If I was not home with sick children and a sick husband, I would pluck a pregnancy test from my medicine cabinet (because I am the kind of person who keeps a three-pack around just in case) and drive it over to your house myself.

Long-time reader here, but I rarely comment…but I had to speak up today to say please please please drive to Target and get a test! You are driving me CRAZY! šŸ™‚ I'm excited to see what the results are! I'm 12 weeks along with #2 (our first is just 11 months old), so we've got the "baby bug" at our house too.

And I'm really not trying to drive you all crazy…not really…okay, maybe a little.

Still, would you want to drag four squirmy worms out into the single-digit temps? Knowing sounds fun but going out does not.

Ahh, it's a North Dakota thing! My mom's cousin married my dad's cousin. I thought that kinda thing was a Cavalier thing…now I know it's the good 'ol north.
And I love the "not knowing". It is more exciting.

I want to know why your husband hasn't picked one up for you! The beauty of charting, even if you want to ignore all the fertility signs and do whatever you want, is that you (or I) know when my temp has been up for a mere 12 or 13 days that I'm (probably) pregnant. 21 days of elevated temps is not necessary here. Even with the temp confirmation, dh would have gone to get the test. šŸ™‚

Soooo….could your husband bring a test home with him??? That's what I always do! I do know what you mean about the waiting as well. It is a magical. I didn't wait very long to do my last test though; my husband likes to know for sure. He's not too crazy about the wondering. My test confirmed that our number 10 will be joining us (God-willing!) in August šŸ™‚ I'll be thinking of and praying for you today!!!

I have a stockpile of tests in my bathroom cupboard. Sometimes I feel a little weird about that…not something most people would hoard!
One time I asked one of my kids to go get me a thermometer to take the baby's temp, and they came back with a pregnancy test instead.

    So, if you need one….

We buy bulk pregnancy test strips on Amazon for situations just such as this – my cycle's off because I'm still nursing #2, so I test every week just to be sure!!! I've probably got like, 20 under the bathroom sink right now, and at around twenty cents a pop, I don't feel wasteful!

And it doesn't stop there. There were two other siblings from my mom's family that married two siblings from my dad's.

Big families, small town! Made for easy family reunions, I'm sure.

    oh my gosh Maggie!
I ran through the door with my three squirmy worms, after a day out and about (because Thursdays are my going to market day while the girls have piano lessons – right after I get my allergy shots) and, btw, our actual high temperature was minus 5 degrees F. I don't know what the wind chill was, but it was COLD!

Anyway, I could hardly wait to get to the computer because I thought for sure you must have posted something by now…. but no.

You are sooooooo enjoying this!! You do know that it is driving us mad, right??!?

But I have to admit, I do understand exactly what you said to Ellie. I've done that in the past, too.

We're sitting on the edge of our collective seats!!

P.S. Jodi – my son married a girl from Cavalier!!! šŸ™‚

{I know you aren't as old as me, yet, {45} but I have had the craziest cycles since my nursling and I won't let my body get back to normal…I went 48 days before Aunt Flo in Dec. then I *just* had a 43 day cycle that ended on Friday last….this peri-menopause stuff is nuts!

My grandpa's sister married my grandma's brother, and they lived in Detroit. But this was in late 19"teens", so maybe Detroit was more small town then? Also, they were both from immigrant families (grandpa from England and grandma from Germany.) Maybe that had something to do with it? They were both beautiful marriages. I just love the Petunia story. :o)
