Wheat Belly

November 28, 2011 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Health & Wellness, Just Me, Minnesota Me, Weigh-In Wednesday 19 Comments

I am fat and out of shape. I tell you this so that you feel sorry for me, certainly, but also so that you brace yourself in the coming weeks for talk of weight loss programs and graphic photos of my toes on a scale.

Today is Day 1 of my 30-Day Shred.

Tomorrow, allegedly, will be Day 2.

DSC_0406

I’m thinking I might need to start my workout earlier—not that I mind the company, necessarily, but I do have a few personal space issues.

And the above photo does not even include Anthony the Interloper! (Woops, I forgot to call him by his blog name George.) I really really do need to start my workout before he gets up because he can be a bit of an attention hog.

This morning he came down the stairs just as I was getting started. “Wet,” he complained, at the same time the smell hit me. “Foofda!” I complained to Joe. “When you got George into his jammies last night, did you remember to change his diaper?”

“Woops.”

So I stripped George bare and he stood there grinning, a pint-sized Adonis in the buff. “Look at you, kid!” I said admiringly. “You don’t got a wheat belly like your momma at all.”

He shook his backside sassily.

“You know what you have?” I asked, tickling his tummy. “You have a ba-bahs belly! Ba-bahs from the momma!” (Yes, I am weaning him. Still. We’re not quite there.)

“And you know what your brother has?” I continued, thinking of the 14-year-old’s favorite food. “Your brother has a bagel belly!” Mind you, this was said for humorous effect only. My 14-year-old is slim slim slim; he has a six-pack, even, from all that running.

Not that I’m jealous.

I really did have fun naming all the “bellies” in the room…but that itself does nothing to solve my problem. I am squishy, my friends—squishy squishy squishy and out of shape and not eating the way I’m supposed to be.

See?
(Note: That says 133.8, not 1,338.)

You may not think this number’s alarming, although I’ll bet that my friend Erin gets it. Put it this way: I am short—very short. Only 5’O’’ on a good day! So really, to be healthy, I should be down around 115. Heck, seeing 119 would make me happy!

Happy and healthy, that’s my goal.

So, um, will you be my diet buddy? Are you willing to hold my largish bottom accountable and put up with a weigh-in photo every Wednesday?

I thank you, as does my wheat belly.

I will be…in February–after recovering from the C-section! I did buy a new Walk Away the Pounds CD this past weekend in hopes of working out as soon as I can!!!

Uh, I'm not showing my scale though, at least not with the numbers on it.

    Very brave of you!!
SO, what's the Wheat Belly diet all about? Not buying the book til I know more about it!

I had to get up at 5-5:30 last year, (before getting preggers) to avoid stinky diapers and kiddos that took up the whole room!

If the wheat goes to the belly, which part does the wine go to?

I'm walking "the bridge" on Ford Island or "the run-way" every other night . . . it's about two miles or so . . . I started three days ago and my hips are making a racket!!!! BUT, I feel better (mentally, any how). I'm 5'4" and 160 pounds. Not nice. I need to drop 30. I think "they" say I need to be nearer 120-125, but I think I look ILL when I'm that low. I'll start with being happy about dropping ten pounds at a time. My reward, other than healthy ones? A new wardrobe!

What the stink? Are you kidding me? Okay, I am taking into consideration your height, but I would still LOVE to see that number on my scale.

    Go, girl!! Shred it up!!

I thought you were being brave when you mentioned "graphic photos" and I thought we were in for the infamous shorts and jog-bra pics! I still think you're brave for posting real numbers. I'll support you, and even join you. Even though I had no wheat over Thanksgiving, I still had enough carbs that do the same kind of damage.

I'll be your diet buddy too! I *might* even blog about it but you can be sure there will be no scale pictures! You're brave. 🙂 I've got 20 to lose.. I'd like to lose 30 but I'm *trying* to be realistic here.

    You can do it!!!

This is too funny! I JUST put the Wheat Belly book on hold at the library before visiting your blog today. I understand your numbers. People think I am being wierd wanting to loose weight. I am currently 130. However I am also short and weighed 120 the day I delivered my first child. I also would be happy with 119. It is all in my belly! I'll check in with you often. Maybe we will see 119 together. God bless, trish

I believe mine falls in the chocolate and dessert belly. Can I exercise and still eat yummy treats? I know…not possible. Going downstairs right now to walk on the treadmill. Absolutely no photos of my scale 🙂
    God Bless.

Oh, Day 1! I remember Day 1! I remember barely being able to lift the phone to call my best friend and tell her I was dying!

Best of luck. Jillian rocks. My current passenger precludes my participation in the pounds-off party.

    ugh. I hate Jillian.
…oh, wait. Did I just type that? 😉

I've been doing the 30 Day Shred off and on for a few months. I've lost about 30 lbs with more to go. I'm short, too. But I do have 2 inches on you, hehe. 🙂 My trainer (aka sister-in-law) has told me it's time to step it up a notch and she wants me to start the P90X program. Mercy. I've also been watching what I eat by following the Weight Watchers points system. It's hard and I have ups and downs, but like my trainer says, "it took you 9 pregnancies and 14 years to put on the weight so you can't expect to take it all off over night."
I'll be in your cheering section, Margaret. You're off to a great start!
So, you can count me in!

My you are brave. I took off 22lbs last year and still had 7 more to go to reach my goal. And then…I went on vacation. Lets just say the scale has slowly been creeping back up since then.

Thanks for the reminder to get in shape.

I'm ready to jump on the wagon again. I'm not sure how I'll go about it this time. Jillian seems a little scary…

Ok, I'll be brave too, as of this morning, at 5'5" I'm 144.0 lbs

I have that video in a drawer somewhere. I remember doing it when I first got it. I used three pound hand weights to do the exercises that require weights and that was a big mistake. I couldn't move the next day. It got better though. I weighed 115lbs when I got married and weigh 148lbs (give or take)now. I am 5'4" and my ideal weight should be close to what it was when I wed. Four kids later, I still weigh too much. I would love to join you, just a little scared of Jillian. I don't wheat or grains (intollerance issues)and that help shed some pounds. Not sure what the wheat belly diet is, but go for it if it works. I have a friend who went paleo after her last baby and she shed pounds fast. I am too weak to do paleo. Best of luck from another Canadian, eh!

I doing a healthy eating plan at the moment.

    * Stop eating HI foods – foods that have had 'Human Intervention'. If it is wrapped in plastic – do not eat it! It it has had its shape changed by a human, do not eat it. If it does not resemble its natural form – do not eat it!

    * Eat fresh meats (protein), fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains.

    * Drink 2 litres of water a day

    * If you need to eat chocolate each day, but a small single serve piece, pop it in your mouth then go along with your business!

In Australia we have a Government Campaign – Swap it, don't stop it!

    http://swapit.gov.au/

    Swap big for small (servings)
    Swap often for sometimes
    Swap sitting for moving
Swap watching for playing etc etc

Hope some of this helps 🙂

    Cheers – Joolz
