I was tempted to feel discouraged yesterday. Here it was the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel—allegedly one of my favorites—and I had done little to nothing to prepare for it!
First off, we didn’t make it to daily Mass and this omission quickly lent itself to all sorts of guilt. I batted it away and squared my shoulders. Regret is not our friend, my friends!
Yet, what could I do then?
I printed out some coloring pages that I found via Jessica’s blog. Thank you, Jessica! That was a start.

I talked, a lot, about the brown scapular and Our Lady. Both Cate and Felicity wear a scapular—as do I—but do we truly understand it? Of course we don’t.
I did not make a scapular cake. I thought about it, though!
Finally, I briefly considered driving to Leaflet Missal to buy Garment of Grace and/or this coloring book. I shook my head no and again, no. It was too hot to be out driving! Instead, the girls and I hung out in our backyard. We filled the pool and set up the slip-n-slide. We splashed, and laughed, and—dare I say it?—loved.
Yes, I dare say it. It’s corny but I dare say it.
Well. Well. This morning I cleaned off a classroom shelf because that is the sort of thing I do on Saturday mornings and there—and there!—I found a forgotten(!) copy of Garment of Grace, which we proceeded to read with our eggs & toast.
End of story.
Smile on face.
God is so very, very good.

At least it wasn't the first day in 6 weeks that you forgot to wear your scapular like some people 😉
