Felicity’s favorite day is Friday, because it is on Friday afternoon that she has dance class.
She is the only one of our three girls who is taking dance class right now, not because we want to show preferences but because–of all the three–Felicity is the one who pined for lessons.
Felicity’s the one who begged for them.
We first “tried on” dance lessons several years ago. Cate joined a studio just up the road and we were dismayed, when all was said and done, by the type of dance we saw at the recital. We’re not that into hip-hop, shall we say? We wanted our girls to focus on ballet without spending an arm & leg in the process.
And so we stopped the lessons for a couple of years.
Now, thanks to the recommendation of a very good friend, we have found a ballet studio in a neighboring town that is both affordable and sweet. Felicity loves her teacher and I love the fact that–for now anyway–I have found one little way to make my little girl happy.
She’s growing up too fast, you see.
And all the tiny pink leotards in the world can’t change that.

there is nothing quite as sweet as little girl feet in little girl tights in little pink ballet shoes.
it is just so classically feminine – and fun!
enjoy your lessons!
ps. i hear you on the "other styles of dance" – my cousin is a competitive dancer and has been since like 4 or 5… APPALLED at the show we went to. most of her routines were fine (although, hiphop, blah. more tap i say, more tap!), but so many of the others were NOT. its hard to argue about the oversexualization of our children (ages FOUR TO TEN!) when the parents are paying for it, agreeing to the disgusting costumes and cheering in the audience.
ok, off my soapbox. š

How sweet!
I know what you mean about some of those big dance studios and the recitals they put on. My older 3 did it years ago and it was a one year stint š I didn't like the dance styles and the motives seemed to be all about making $$$$.

Oh so sweet. And so innocent — hang on to that as long as possible.
Faith would love to take ballet, but we have not yet found that studio. They are all very recital-oriented with hundreds of dollars spent on costumes. Or the dress is just so immodest. I say, "Can't she just learn to dance?"

She's so sweet Margaret. I love little dancers.
Our studio also does hip-hop and jazz, but we just opt for the ballet classes. I do think tap is positively adorable though!

My "little dancer" is now 26 and going to NYU in September for a Masters of Art in Choreography. Good Luck to your little ballerina! It's quite a dancing world out there!

It was my dream to dance and dance ballet . . . I never had one lesson. I'm not bitter (now). I have Rachel . . . never interested in dance. She's got two lefties anyway, but if she'd wanted to dance, I was all for it. Alas, she's a book worm like me. š They do grow up so fast. Enjoy! She's so beautiful.

There's nothing sweeter than a room full of little girls in pink leotards, pink tights, and pink ballet slippers.
My oldest dd has been dancing for 5 years now, my youngest for 5 months. It's still so wonderful to watch. And, the grace that ballet brings.
We do only ballet and I'm so grateful for the wonderful studio here in our small town.
