Feeling Social Saturday

The “Inspiration” Edition

My husband’s taken the boys skiing—in 5 degree weather, yikes!—and so it’s just me & Anthony & my three little hens today.

We are cleaning the house, which feels really good.

We are planning next week’s lessons, which also feels really good.

And we are filling the chinks with fun and inspiration.

(At least, I’m trying to.)

(Because, truth be told, my three little hens do not agree with me when I say that cleaning and planning feels really good.)

(They’re sick of this coop. They want to fly from it.)

And so I’m fending off requests to let them play PBSKids for the 1000th time and am trying trying trying to find little ways to bring joy & beauty into our day. We started out by listening to this song, which, while not exactly beautiful, is certainly joyful and certainly fun.

We did our morning stretches to it. ☺

So share with this house-bound momma, please. What do you do when you’re stuck inside? What do you find inspirational?

Ed. Note: The above video does contain the “d” work. My girls don’t notice and I don’t draw attention to it.

Hiya Margaret! We're stuck inside too – it's 14 degrees outside. Plans for today include baking probably more than is wise, planning lessons for next week (which is fun, I'm with you!), knitting socks, Mass this evening, followed by the Cowboy game. Full day! I hope yours is productive!

We've been using up our ideas for the past couple of weeks, and I think cabin fever is setting in! Mall-walking, bowling, roller rink, indoor playparks, museums, downtown skyways… but since it was -14 this morning, I've gotten to the point of… hibernation!

Well, we were out of town near Brainerd last weekend snowmobiling in -20 weather. At Mass, the priest told us that we are hearty and were born in MN for reason and that if we chose to move south we'd have to answer at the pearly gates for that move. haha We are planning and cleaning too. But, my dh took 3 kids ice fishing on Mil Lacs until tomorrow (fish houses are really really warm) so I am heading out with the rest for a short bit in our -1 weather..if for no other reason than to show him that I can do it too. But, I do have to say..my youngest will be 2 next week…pretty cold for little Anthony…have fun..make some cookies..and a movie ain't bad either.

My hens are a bit younger than yours; but we have similar problems. So glad that today daddy was home to take them out to play for a brief while in the snow while I played with baby Ben. We've been doing lots of watercolor painting. Yesterday we went to story time at the library.

Good luck in keeping those darling girls entertained.

Well, if I were the mother I'd like to be, I'd:

Get out stacks of old magazines and glue and make collages — big collages of our favorite things. And use glitter.

Or make snow ice cream (from the clean stuff).

Or bake muffins from healthy ingredients.

Or make blanket forts under the dining room table and read stories for hours.

But the mom I am would snuggle up on the sofa with a big bowl of popcorn and hot cocoa and some knitting and watch princess movies (Snow White is my favorite).

Hope you're having a happy day, Dearheart.

Hmm. One thing I like to do to reboot the day is to order everyone to have a bath (and take a long hot shower myself). I always feel as if it's a brand new day once that's over with.

Hi Margaret. Just popped over to say hi and read everyone's great ideas. Because, as you know, I'm in the same predicament … And I could use some new ideas, too. It's SO COLD!!! And my kids certainly agree with yours and do not think cleaning and straightening feel good. I think I could spend the entire day doing that, if they let me. But they won't. Oh well … We did order pizza for lunch. That was a real treat! =)

You know I'm a music-Mama… and that's my answer to every funk. Jason Mraz is a household name here.
    🙂
And BNL of course… do you own Snacktime yet?
Answer me, please… b/c if you don't, I'm going to buy it for you.
    😛
Oh, and we play indoor soccer, hockey and volleyball. Yes, in the house… or in the garage. Come on over!

We do not own BNL's Snacktime, dear 'Meg. But coming from you, I'm sure we'd love it!

It's cold here too! My oldest has a science fair project due at the end fo the month, so a good part of today was spent building batteries (for magnets)…I know you're jealous! 😀

I took my oldest to see Jason Mraz in concert (her first). It was a lot of fun … he was clean and his music always puts me in a good mood.

I'm about to go for a run (indoors) and was just rearranging the playlist. I've got everything from U2, Fireflies, Switch by Will Smith, Kris Allen, Staring Down by Collective Soul, Show me what I'm looking for by Carolina Liar, and a little Coldplay. Eric Hutchinson is fun (Rock &Roll).

I was also inspired to pull out the bread machine and make my own pizza dough for dinner tonight.

    First the run …

We had intentions of taking the kids skiing with friends on Sat. But, it really was too cold in Bismarck. We stayed inside and played games instead – Catan & Whist. The kids did go outside, but they didn't last too long. Wish we could have stayed and skied today … they pretty much had a heatwave at 31 degrees!
