The Culinary, Literary & Musical Edition
I saw “Julie & Julia” last night with my friends. Loved it. (It’s all about cooking and blogging and cooking—what’s not to love?)
And plus they are both fond of pearls like me.
Went home and reserved Mastering the Art of French Cooking at our local library. There are 43 people ahead of me in the queue, so meanwhile I’ll be mastering the art of patience.
As if.
The girls and I cannot get enough of Monica Wellington’s darling books. She is a talented artist whose vibrant collages include beautiful gardens and lively scenes of Paris.
C’est très joli.
Right now Angela has a book bag packed with Crêpes by Suzette, Pizza at Sally’s, Firefighter Frank, Mr. Cookie Baker, and Zinnia’s Garden. They are her “collection” and go everywhere that she does. (She would have added our copy of Night House, Bright House but it is literally falling apart at the seams and is waiting to be repaired by Mom.)
We absolutely love these books.
I have written before about how much we enjoy Making Music Praying Twice (The Home- school Edition). We have been listening to the fall CD for the past two weeks; it is all that Angela requests, and given that she’s the most…persuasive of my children, she has her way.
I don’t mind. I love the music on this CD, especially the Latin “Magnificat” and the fun, folksy “Sissy in the Barn.”
Now I see that they have added activities to their website. (Click on the “Just for Kids” tab at the top of the page.) Very cool! There are coloring pages and audio samples, as well as a great section on music history and appreciation.
(We’ve already colored the chubby Humpty, and have printed out “Fall” for Tuesday.)
Have a great week, everyone!

I had the exact same "what's not to love?" response to Julie and Julia :).
Love the sound of those books. Wonder if Amazon UK has them …
Hmmm. Word verification has "welaced". What did we lace?

And I love your blog!

Thanks for the great tips. Trying to see the movie — my family is holding me captive with their illnesses. BTW — any idea what the address is for the real blog — does it still exist? When I Google it, there's much ado about it, but can't find the real thing.
I will send you my copy of "The Way to Cook" by Julia. I've only ever used it for Quiche Lorraine!

I highly recommend tracking down those books for your little girl, Bookworm. Try your library first–that's where we found all of ours.
Hurricane Winds, thank you. 🙂
And Barbara, I think she (Julie Powell) took her blog offline after the book deal took effect. More's the pity–I would have loved to read it.
I did find this final post, written the day after Julia Child died.

Too funny Margaret! I did the same thing at the library a couple of weeks ago and there were #19 people in front of me!
Hey, I just checked that link you posted about the last entry on the original Julie/Julia blog and if you click on the "Why Julie?" or something like that in the right hand corner, it will take you back to the very 1st entry of the project – similar to what they showed on the TV. Then it looks like you can click through all of the entries by clicking on the dates on the attached calendar. Here is the link to get to that first blog entry: http://blogs.salon.com/0001399/2002/08/25.html. I think I might take a stroll through…
Have a great rest of the weekend and God Bless! St. Lawrence, patron saint of cooks, pray for us!

I found my two volumes of MAFC at a second-hand bookstore. I claimed the 2nd volume first, and the 1st volume a couple of years later. This was, of course, before the movie, but it is worth a try. I have also heard that you can get some of it online, but I have never investigated that avenue. The coq au vin is fantastic!

You're right, Mrs. B! The whole blog is there!
Yay. 🙂

Add Apple Farmer Annie to your list. We found it at the library and brought it home for A week. It's a keeper!
