(One-Sided) Conversations with my 4-Year-Old

October 27, 2008 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Keeping It Real, Minnesota Me, Motherhood, My Girls 6 Comments

At 5:45 a.m.

Angela the Exporer (upon noting that it was still dark outside): Where is the sun, Momma?

I think: It’s in its bed, just like you should be.

I say: It’s on the other side of the world, Honey.

Angela: Let’s go there right now!

* * * * * * *

Angela the Patriot (upon noting the flag outside our entrance window): The flag is flapping, Momma. That means we’re Americans.

I think: Chatty Americans, you mean.

I say: nothing.

* * * * * * *

Angela the Theologian (upon noting the beef & onion gyro I put together for my breakfast): No thank you, Momma. God made me allergic to those.

I think: Must…eat…something…to…stay…awake…

I say: nothing.

* * * * * * *

I write this all down to remember. Our 4-year-olds are cute, even at ungodly hours. Our 4-year-olds are cute, even at ungodly hours. Our 4-year-olds are cute….

She has been up since 4:00 a.m.

Signing off now before I fall flat on my face fast asleep on the keyboard,

Updated (at 9:00 a.m.) to Add:

I think I’ll join her.

    I have a seven o’clock rule: I don’t want to see you before seven a.m.

    Unfortunately, the little ones can’t tell time yet.

    You have my sympathy.

    Our youngest, Christopher will be 4 in February. He wakes during the night but will snuggle up with us in our bed. My only rule with him is he has to go to bed in his bed. If he wakes and it is dark he can come to our bed.
