Our parish Fall Festival is in full swing this weekend and I’ll tell you, last night’s dinner did not disappoint. To tell you the truth, our standards are not that high. A quiet evening out for Mom and Dad? We’re there.
Except that it wasn’t a quiet evening at all. It was loud, and raucous, and very fun. It was totally worth the price of admission. (And the cost of a babysitter. And the $10.00 reading glasses I bought at Walgreens on the way there. Hint.)
In addition to a four-course gourmet meal prepared by one of the parishioners, there was live entertainment and a fun game, to boot.
If you didn’t, you lose a set.
The game continued until there were two people standing—the smart ones who had purchased more than three sets of beads (like yours truly) to begin with. The winner (the guy on the right) won $100.00.
Not a bad investment. Risky, but not bad.
The live auction was as fun as always. Sometimes we bid; sometimes we don’t. The real fun is in the playing. (Who I am kidding? The fun is in winning, as you well know.) This crowd knows how to bid, however, and we tend to back down before we have to mortgage our house and vehicles.
How much would you pay for this delectable dessert? I think it went for $125.00, which sounds prohibitive but which isn’t, really, if you’re splitting the difference with the other three couples at your table. (Or you could sit there alone with your fork and your cake and as such, make quite a name for yourself.)
Speaking of notoriety. There were several celebrity guests present, adding to the fun and flummery of the evening.
Can you name them?
Feel free to list your guesses in the combox. Everyone who lists them all correctly (and mind you, that last one is a little tricky) will go into a drawing to win a copy of this cookbook.
Heck, you don’t even have to guess correctly. Just leave a comment and I’ll throw your name in.
And finally, yes, I’m offering another cookbook. What can I say? It is our Fall Festival, after all, and I am nothing if not a church lady.
Best of luck! I’ll announce the winner tomorrow in the combox at roughly 12:00 p.m. my time.
Journey of Truth says
Dale Alquist, the G.K. Chesterton gent.
I have no clue who the lovely lady is.
The third looks like Minn. Mom. (yourself/herself).
I hope I helped someone out with Dale!
poofergirlsperspective says
I am totally cheating with not knowing Dale … but since it was here and it saved me from looking at the EWTN site I am stealing it.
1. Dale Alquist
2. Kali Yanta (aka Kali King)
3. Minnesota Mom
I don’t need the prize but I was so excited that I knew Kali Yanta. I am not sure it is fair for Minnesota girls to play. 🙂 We had Kali and John speak a couple of times to our youth group when she only had one baby! Oh man does that date me. I didn’t know that there were 5 babies now.
Looks like it was a fun night!

You ladies are quick! As such, I’ve changed the parameters of this contest. The winner will now be chosen via a drawing.
PS. Your third guess is technically right but it’s still not right. Sorry. 🙂
PPS. And I feel guilty thinking that you may be thinking that I’m trying to buy your love (i.e. comments). The cookbook I’m giving away is one that I was given. I have oodles of cookbooks and therefore–yes, I admit this freely–I am re-gifting this one for the sake of this contest and a little weekend fun.
In case you’re not, like, having fun already.

Ok, I feel silly saying this but at first glance pic #3 made me think Gov. Palin was there!
Joan says
I’m cheating too.
1.Dale Alquist
2.Kali Yanta
Margaret’s friend or relative who is a MOM, who lives in Minnesota,or what the heck, it could be MARGARET herself in disguise.
Joan says
OOPS. I forgot to write the number 3 before my last guess. Can you tell I’m dragging today?

I’m always having great fun at your blog, Margaret.
It’s one of my favorites!
akarels says
Is it cheating for me to guess, since I was there? If so, I’ll pass this on to the next person:
1. Dale Ahlquist
2. Kalley Yanta
3. Sarah Palin
Had a great time with you last night dear! Perhaps we can do dinner again in a slightly less rowdy environment.
Elizabeth M says
I have no guesses — so I won’t “borrow” from others. But it sounds like a fun evening. If you want to count me in the drawing, great.
I wish our parish had these kinds of fun, social, and community-building events!
poofergirlsperspective says
So we were given the hint that you purchased reading glasses on the way to the dinner right? And the one who looks like you in the last picture is wearing reading glasses right? I am just saying that it appears to be a trick question maybe? 🙂 Maybe it is just Margaret … blogger mom.

Cute, cute, cute!
Not sure about #3. Thought it was you.
Kali Yanta that is right.
But I have no clue who the guy is. Terrible, I know.

#3 – The Church Lady?
Mary says
I have absolutely no idea who these people are (but the third one might be you) I would take a cookbook if you are offering. You would have to send it south though.
Katie says
#1 Dale Alquist
#2 Kali Yanta
#3 Margaret doing her Sarah Palin impression
Ouiz says
I have no idea who the first two people are (sorry!) but if the last one ISN’T you, then you have an identical twin out there!

1) Dale Alquist
2) Kallie Yanta
3) MOM as Sarah Palin

And the winner is…
Tracy! Congratulations, my friend! Felicity picked your name out of the hat and you are now the proud owner of a brand new (to you) cookbook.
[No need to email me with your address. I know where to find you.]
You all did very well with your guesses and I had a lot of fun reading them. The “celebrities” (local and/or otherwise) listed in order are:
Dale Ahlquist;
Kalley King Yanta;
and Minnesota Me impersonating Sarah Palin.
Hee.
Have a blessed Sunday, everyone!

Ack! I commented too late.
Oh well! Glad you had such a great time. 🙂
