So would it unnerve you to call me Maggie in Minnesota instead of Margaret?
I prefer the friendliness of Maggie and am thinking of making the switch once and for all. It’s hard, though! (All change is, at least for me.)
What do you think? Let’s have a tally.

Heather says
Oh, that will take some getting used to. I might still have to think of you as Margaret. (Which is still perfectly friendly). 🙂
But if change is in store…so be it!
Heather says
I like Maggie!
Matilda says
I will always think of you as the super friendly Margaret in Minnesota but if you want to be called Maggie, it isn’t that hard to type.
Suzanne Temple says
Well, it wouldn’t change the blog name. Margaret or Maggie, either way, you’re the Minnesota Mom.
Michele Quigley says
I think Margaret is very friendly –but then I know you. A local friend named Margaret asked us all a few years ago to start calling her Meg. It hasn’t stuck, most of us don’t remember. Just like I can’t get anyone who knows me as “Shellie” to call me Michele.
My opinion is to not change it – I think it’s great the way it is!
stephanie says
My MIL goes by Maggie. I could get used to the change pretty quickly. There. I’m used to it already, Maggie.
Jennie C. says
Well, Maggie, I’ve been calling you Margaret for so long, even though I know you prefer Maggie, that it will take some getting used to, but you can be whoever you want to be. I’ve always preferred Jennie, but almost no one in real life calls me that, even though it’s how I introduce myself. 🙂
It might take a little while, but we’ll all get used to it!
KC says
It WILL take a bit to get used to. As everyone else has already said, I’ll always think of you as Margaret in Minnesota.
Maggie it is though, sweet lady!
Angie says
I noticed it right away yesterday that it said “Maggie in Minnesota.” I thought, “Maggie?” 😉
It will take some getting used to, but I’m very sensitive about people’s names, and always try to make sure that I call them what they really prefer. So, if you prefer to be called Maggie, I think that’s what you should get to be called on your own blog.
I have a new niece (well — less than a year old) who is named Maggie. So, the name always makes me smile. And, well…you make me smile too. That means it shouldn’t be a hard to remember, right?
Jamie says
I would have a hard time with it!
I stand by whatever you want to be called…I’ll try to call you Maggie…you know that everyone, EVERYONE just uses your name Margaret and knows who you are, you are quite famous in the blog world! Didn’t Prince do this a few times? People still call him Prince, at least I do…but I’m not friendly with him either.
Ok Maggie…Blessings on your day!
Jamie says
I like the new picture!!! You look friendlier Maggie!
Just had to come back and tell you that I just noticed it!!
Hallie says
I have a darling niece named Maggie and I’ve always loved the name. It sounds like a lovely idea to me! 🙂
Polina says
Maggie is a sweet name, but I love Margaret more:) Margaret is such a regal name, name for a Queen.
molly d says
If you’re not going formal with your full name, is Mags totally out of bounds then?
I like all your names! You’re beautiful and terrific, no matter how you spell it.
Shannon says
sure! do people in “real life” call you Maggie?
I’ve always loved that name.
Wendy & Chris says
I always wondered if you were a Maggie IRL. Our youngest, Margaret Mary, is a Maggie, so I’m kind of partial to that name. :o)
J.C. says
What do YOU prefer to go by? The friendliest name is what we consider to be most authentically YOU!!! Who IS Minnesota Mom? Is she Margaret? (which is lovely!) or is she Maggie? (also lovely!):) What we associate with your name is entirely based on you! And that has always been a very favorable impression. 😉 Margaret, Maggie, you know we’ll love you either way.
Melissa says
“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet…”
I say, whatever makes you happy.
(But just so you know…I happen to like “Maggie”.)
🙂
Mary B says
I like Maggie. Change really is hard though. My sister Roseanne would have killed us to give her a nickname but somehow she came out of college as Rosie.
The Sojourner says
You’ve been Margaret in Minnesota ever since I “met” you in the comments at Danielle Bean (I was delighted the first time you had a link next to your name) but I’m sure I’ll get used to Maggie fairly quickly.
Jen says
I like Maggie. Whatever you prefer. 🙂
Gretchen says
Exactly what J.C. said! What you’re comfortable with and go with IRL.
Blessings!
MomDaBomb says
Up to you! but>>>> i still like Margaret- it does not make you any less friendly; any less approachable…
(Margaret is my middle name so I am a bit biased!)
Jill says
Margaret is such a beautiful, sophisticated name. That would be my vote.
But, as the others say, I could get get used to Maggie.
My daughter loves the name Maggie and has begged us to name our next girl that…if we could be so blessed to get a girl again someday!
Either way, keep the Minnesota thing going. It reminds me of home and says so much about you.
patjrsmom says
Margaret or Maggie…either way you’re still the friendly Minnesota mom we’ve all come to know and love!
God Bless,
Jane
twithhoney says
It’s your blog, your name. Whatever you pick I can adapt.
But since you’re looking for opinions, I think Margaret suits you better than Maggie. For some reason a person that is kind, warm and level-headed comes to mind when I think of Margaret. Maggie brings to mind someone friendly and carefree.
Ouiz says
Well, I’m one to talk, since I don’t even use my real name out in the blogging world! 😉
I love the name Margaret, but Maggie will work just fine!
Michelle says
Call yourself whatever you like.
But I’ll still call you Margaret.
😉
nutmeg says
You’re still beautiful, either way…. LOVE the new pic!
🙂
mominapocket says
My vote is for Maggie
Dori says
Maggie sounds like it would suit you just fine!
Cath says
I’ll be just as decisive as everyone else — you are such a beautiful, friendly person it doesn’t matter what name you choose!
(But I will admit that I am partial to Margaret as that was the name of one of my best friends from high school.) 🙂
Elizabeth says
Looks like it’s too late, but I plump for Margaret (I’m biased as it’s my middle name).
Annie in MD says
My sister went from Meg to Margaret after college. She’ll always be “Meg” to me, but I respect that she likes the way Margaret sounded better. I like Maggie and Margaret equally, and I’ll always think of you as Margaret…but I’m adaptable. 🙂
Diane says
I vote for Peggy.
No, wait, make that Greta.
As in Garbo.
poofergirlsperspective says
I’m going to vote for Margaret just because I am one of those strange people that really likes full names. But of course it is your blog and you are in charge so whatever you choose is just fine by me. 🙂
Christine says
I have only know you as Margaret….but Maggie is what you want Maggie it shall be.
When I was growing up everyone called me Chrissie….then off to college it turned into Chris. When I started moving to new towns I wanted new people to call me Christine.
My family still call me Chrissie…my college friends still call me Chris and my new friends call me Christine.
Jenn says
Well, here I am, late as always. 😉 Since you asked me to call you Maggie many, many years ago, I’ve always done so. Also, since my roommate (you-know-who) always called you Margaret, well, I also think of you as Margaret. Soooo, I will abstain from voting. I do call my daughter Mary Margaret though! 🙂
Journey of Truth says
My MIL’s name is Margaret, but we call her Peg. It’s cute!!
It’s whatever you want to be addressed as. We’ll honor that ‘cos we love ya!!
Elizabeth M says
You should use what you choose and we’ll all adjust! My daughter (7 years old) Margaret Anne wants only to be called Meg right now. I’m expecting Maggie sometime in her future!
I was always Elizabeth until at 16 I decided to be Liz. After college, when I entered the “real world,” I went back to Elizabeth. Only a few people (siblings and MIL) call me Liz now, to everyone else it sounds strange!
It took nearly 10 years after working in an office with my friend Kathleen to call her Kathy (what her family and all “non-work” friends call her)!
I agree with everyone — use the name YOU choose and your blog will be just as wonderful — and maybe feel more “right” to you!
bearing says
Hold on a minute. Is this just on the blog, or are you saying that I’ve been supposed to call you Maggie in real life all this time and you’re just too polite to tell me?
Or at least too polite to tell me in person?
Patrick Archbold says
These are weighty issues for sure!
For our most recent child, Margaret / Maggie came in second place to Grace. My wife thought Margaret made her sound like an ol’ lady. (Hey! Take it up with her!)
Any, I put my vote in for Madge!
You just never hear anyone called Madge anymore and I think it could start a trend.
If not Madge, consider Daisy. I didn’t even know this was short for Margaret, but it doesn’t make any less sense than Peggy.
If you put a gun to my head over the Margaret/Maggie choice, I would choose Maggie. (Since my wife say Margaret is an ol’ lady name. Like I said, take it up with her.)
matthew archbold says
Please don’t listen to Patrick. He’s clearly off his meds again. Margaret is a beautiful name. Sounds saintly. Shortening it to Maggie seems harmless and friendly but soon this too will become too much for people and they’ll start shortening it to “Mags.” Yes. It will happen.
Margaret it is.
(Although I’ve got to admit you kinda’ look like a Maggie to me)
Laura The Crazy Mama says
I’m going to throw in my vote for “Megs”, just to be different
heh heh.
Red Cardigan says
I think you should go with whichever name you prefer!
(Not all that helpful, I know).
One of the reasons I like being “Red Cardigan” is that I’m not all that fond of my real name. [Shhh! Don’t tell!] So if you *like* being Maggie, be Maggie; if you like being Margaret, be Margaret; if you feel like being “Greta” or any of the other suggestions, go for it!
And some of us will always think of you as “Minnesota Mom,” anyway. 🙂
Barb says
You prefer Maggie. So Maggie it should be.
Rachel says
I think you should go with Margeaux in Minneseauxta. (kidding aside, I like how Margaret in Minnesota rolls off the tongue.)
Margaret Mary Myers says
What do your husband and friends call you? 🙂
snowshoe says
Margaret is so distinguished. My husband votes for Margaret too. Is there no constancy in life? Next thing you know, the pope is going to want us to call him Benny. We vote for Margaret!!!!!
Anonymous says
How about “Minnesota Maggie”?
Then you get to have your change, and it rolls off of the tongue so sweetly!
God bless you,
Donna
Mark says
I vote “Maggie”. If you want to skew the results, poll Rod Stewart fans.
🙂 Also fans of “Lost” may tilt things a bit.
John Jansen says
I’d go with Maggie in Minnesota, if for no other reason than it would make it easier for me to distinguish in my own mind between you and my mom, whose name is Margaret and who also lives in Minnesota.
