Catholic Vacation Bible School 2008

June 30, 2008 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Family Fun, Minnesota Me, Special Events, Spiritual Growth, The Faith 9 Comments

Born in Bethlehem which means
“House of Bread,”
Laid in a manger where animals are fed.
You feed us now with your Body and Blood.
I worship You, O God of Love!

What: Catholic Vacation Bible School
When: Last week
Where: Our church’s grade school
Who: Me, my kids, and at least 100 others
How: By the grace of God, my friend, by the grace of God!

CVBS 2008 was a whirlwind week that, as always, was totally worth it. There is so much that I could say about this event that in the end, I decided to just let the pictures tell the story. The theme of this year’s school was “Holy Mary of Guadalupe, Ever Virgin.” Or, I should say that was the secondary theme. The primary themes were faith, hope, love and fun.

Yes, they had piñatas.

Section I: In the Nursery

Section II: Music, Memories and Making Friends

My friend Erin and her sweetie pie Mary Jane
(who refused to stay in the nursery with me)

Section III: Projects, Petitions, Praise and Prayer

“Okay, kids, take out your rosaries!”

Blessed be the Name of the Lord,

He is worthy to be praised and adored.
So we lift up holy hands in one accord,
Singing, Blessed be the Name of the Lord!

Here I am to worship,
Here I am to bow down,
Here I am to say that You’re my God.
You’re altogether lovely,
Altogether worthy,
Altogether wonderful to me!

Section IV: A Surprise Visitor

Our Beloved Brother Isaac of The Franciscan Friars of the Renewal

And those are the highlights from our whirlwind week!

Some of you have asked about the particulars—specifically, what is the name of the program that we use. Her name is Jean and you can’t have her! : ) Jean is our church’s Coordinator of Elementary Religious Education and I have written about her before. She put together this CVBS program using the book Our Lady and the Aztec by Josephine M. O’Neil (St. Anthony Guild Press).

If you are interested in speaking to Jean about your church’s VBS, email me and I will put you in touch with her.

All for the Greater Glory of God,

What an amazing week. Thanks for sharing the wonderful pictures.
I really wanted to jump in and cuddle that last baby in the rocker wearing a pink top and shorts!

Oh what looks like a blissful week for all the kids… Incredible! I echo the sentiments of awe written above! I’m so glad you shared this Margaret, so as to inspire parishes around the country toward similar, meaningful VBS programs! What an example!!

I also loved your posting on your boys’ accompaniment during your weekly holy hour. What an awesome vision for the future that was for me… I pray my children will desire Christ in such a way!!

Great photos, Margaret! They also bring me slightly off-topic: what is your blog photo etiquette? I usually only post my family. When I wrote some posts about my 8yo’s tea party, I asked every mom for permission before putting up a group photo. How do you decide? Thanks.

Do you know the instructions for the little Juan Diego? Very cute. We studied him as 1 of 5 saints in our program this summer!

    Thanks for sharing,
