Keyed

April 26, 2008 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Hearth & Home, Keeping It Real, Minnesota Me, Motherhood, My Girls 19 Comments

If my 3-year-old should vanish from the face of this blog, you’ll know the reason.

That would be Sharpie marker.

And she would be in her room.

Updated to Add: Goo Gone did the trick! Thanks to some serious elbow grease on the part of my dear husband, there now remains but the faintest trace of purple on the keys. Our three-year-old, too, seems to have recognized that her creative genius was seriously misappropriated in this instance and has assured us that this will not happen again…

…until the next time.

Did your three year old talk to my three year old today? Because we now have Blue-Sharpie Baseball pants (that belong to the league…not us).

    Lovely.

Nooooooo!!!!! Your piano matches my kitchen cabinets! Oh my. I think Home Depot carries something that will remove it, but I haven’t managed to purchase it yet.

Oh my gosh. I am so, so sorry. Looking on the bright side, at least it wasn’t a dry erase marker. Those are truly impossible. With a sharpie there’s hope!

The Sharpie! It can be used for good or evil. Sorry about your piano (and thanks for the laugh… been there… had to call husband over to look at your post. BIG smile of recognition from him). 🙂

Oh, crud! It’s these little things that always make me release just a little more my grasp on the beautiful, but material, things in our home. Sigh. But usually even a Sharpie fades with time, like bright nail polish on white carpet does. Maybe if the keys get played enough it will fade faster!

I would try the MR CLEAN MAGIC ERASER too. It works wonders but I hope to never have to try it where you might.

    Good luck!

    Margaret,
I’ve been there, too many times (but not the piano yet). We’ve had sucess removing sharpie with rubbing alcohol.

    Good luck!

This has happened to me before on real ivory keys. The Mr. Clean sponge works miracles.

Wow, we have a big red spot like that under a chair in our school room!! We might not be able to get our 2 three year olds together, ever, at least not inside by any markers, or scissors!

Oh my goodness – I’m cringing for you, and very glad you were able to clean it up. When we bought our piano I insisted it be used (one with wonderful sound, but plenty of scratches already) since we have two boys. It has collected its fair share of scratches and dings in the many moves we’ve had since it joined our family – I’m very thankful it has only been a canvas for audio art and not visual art so far! 🙂
