A Salutary Saturday

November 10, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Blogging, Minnesota Me, Motherhood, odds and ends 16 Comments

All right, all right. After today I will cool it with the Theme Day titles. Sometimes I just can’t help myself though, and when Bia spoke of having a Meditative Monday, I was off & running.

I have been nosing around the blogosphere and am happy to see that:

Jenn is back!;

Karen is as forgetful as I am;

Jennie is enjoying a beautiful week with her parents;

Tracy is hosting an on-line raffle;

Jill is busy but as always, in good humor;

Abigail is celebrating her 100th post;

and finally, (much to my consolation), ‘Meg is giving me a run for my money in the laundry folding department.

That’s just the tip of the blogging iceberg, of course. I know there is much beneath the surface and that we are probably all of us buzzing around like the busy momma bees we are trying to accomplish way more than is possible on a Saturday.

This is why I just wanted to pop in with a “Hello” and a “How are you?” I do hope you’re doing well today. Is it just me or is having a “crowd” of chores on one’s to-do list just not enough to keep those feelings of loneliness at bay? I have 16 items that I hope to get done today—which is…ridiculous, I know—especially given that what I’d really like to do is have you all over for oatmeal pecan scones and a cup of coffee.

(Don’t worry: I’ve been known to make a pot of tea if that’s your preference.)

In any case, do take a minute to tell me what you’re up to on this fine November Saturday. What’s the highlight of your weekend? For me, it is definitely the movie Bella tomorrow afternoon with a group of friends.

And coffee. Always coffee.

    Lovely friendly post. Thanks–I LOVE coffee. Stayed up till 2 am thanks to it! I am going to a baby shower today for a friend who was struggling to conceive #2. I offered my labor back in April for her intentions–two week later her test was positive! God is so Good. Also have 2 other parties this weekend–when I should really be packing since we leave in a week! ACK!
    Must post volvo’s on craigslist in a desperate attempt to sell them!

    Let’s see… laundry, like everyone else. Cleaning up my house from the miniature Gold Rush we had in my dining room yesterday (Book Club… more about that later) and getting ready of Shortcake’s birthday on Tuesday. Bye now!

    Painting.

    And purging.

    Not procrastinating.

    Not posting. Sigh.

    Priorties, right?

    Here’s to productivity.

    And peace of mind.

    I can’t wait to hear/ read about your experience seeing the movie “Bella” tomorrow afternoon. I would love to see it – but as of now, there are no plans for it to be shown in SD. — As for my plans today, I have one of those lists with a million things on it. But, my 10 year old just came and asked “Can’t we all go to the pool today, Mom?” And when I saw the look in his eyes – that it meant so much to spend the day doing something together (as a family)…for he did not suggest calling a friend or 2 to go the pool with him… I knew that I must make some time for this. The laundry and vacuuming will wait. -And to be perfectly honest, I would rather go to the pool with my children that wear myself out on household chores…

    What a great post!

    We are just back from two soccer games. I’m off to clean and pack a few boxes… then to S*m’s for food, then to my friend Lisa’s for their house-warming party.

    It’s nice to know that we are all “in this together” so to speak, no?

    And yes, I’ll take a few of those scones to go with my coffee!

    🙂

    I’m back and I can comment again! Happy day. We are doing laundry here, catching up on lessons that should have been done yesterday, and planning for the remainder of the year. Nice to talk to you again!

    Italian dinner for my favorite swimmer. My dd has a swim meet tomorrow, so after going to mass tonight we’re treating her to some Italian grub. We’ll probably end the night with our usual card and board games.

    Earlier today I spent my time sorting, storing and donating too much clothing.

    Took my mom to the airport today so she can head back home to Canada. That was hard since this was her first visit since Dad died in June. A year of firsts.

    Some retail therapy, and some laundry! Okay, LOTS of laundry!

    A quiet weekend, thank goodness. Grocery shopping and ironing. Dh watched a losing football game this afternoon. It got ugly. I’ll let you guess which loser he watched. I watched from the safety of the ironing board in the kitchen. A yummy pizza dinner with Mimi (my mom) and tomorrow another quiet day.

    Happy weekend.

    We began with a soccer game and are busy prepping for a birthday bash tomorrow – can my oldest really be 7?

    I think that I will share that cup of coffee – I still have a cake to decorate and presents to wrap, as well as yet another scrubbing of the perpetually disgusting boys’ bathroom! Hope you are having a great weekend!

    Today we were helping our friends install a hardwood floor in their new house so they can move in, listening to the Huskers win (!) and filling up a few boxes of things we are thankful that we can share…

    My dad is bummed about the same game as Barbara’s husband!

    Mary’s baptism…Billy’s First Holy Communion…spending time with out of state relatives…watching the laundry pile grow…but seeing the kitchen and dishes cleaned by many helping hands…lovely times.

    Ladies, it was so much fun to “see” what you were up to as I went about my day. Nutmeg is right when she says that we’re in this together, dirty socks & losing football teams & all.

    Katie, your comment brought a lump to my throat. Good for you for recognizing that the housework can always wait.

    Life is so busy, isn’t it? The weekends are just a different kind of crazy.

    Saturday was tae kwon do, copy center, tkd, copy center, tkd again. Then the usual chores for mom and the kids, then making lasagna. Then dinner ready early so we could leave the kids with Grammy and go to the Divine Mercy Care gala. This is a fund raiser for an awesome pro-life practice here in northern VA. There were a record 550 guests!

    Sunday is mass, library (overdues!), lacrosse, and making a special meal with the 2nd grader. Sounds a little quieter than yesterday.

    Saturday was errands – the egg lady, Wal-Mart, a post office already closed. Baking – oatmeal butterscotch bars, cooking – a pot of split pea soup.

    Sunday – Mass, the girls’ very first dance recital, an attempted family nature hike until someone’s behavior necessitated a turn-around and our first annual St. Martin’s lantern walk around our back yard.

    And today – school of course, and baking your recipe for pumpkin cookies!

    I would absolutely love to come over for scones, but I believe it’s my turn to host you!

    Hope you are off to a “Mitten Strings” kind of week! (glad to be of help there!)

    Saturday is long gone but I remember something about planting 240 bulbs and then going out to spend 240 dollars (at least) on food at the warehouse club. I wish to thank you for the most gracious offer of a pot of tea! (If you put chocolate in the scones coffee will do but otherwise it must be tea.)
