Pie?

November 12, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Anecdotal, Marriage, Minnesota Me 13 Comments

The Wife: “Hey Sweetie, where’d that Dulce-de-Leche banana pie go?”

The Husband: Guilty silence.

The Wife: “Oh Honey, you didn’t eat it all, did you?”

The Husband: “I had a piece.”

The Wife: “You had a piece? There was half a pie left!”

The Husband: “I didn’t say how big it was.”

The Wife: Frustrated sputters. Indignation. Disbelief.

The Husband (sinking fast but always thinking): “It’s your fault. You shouldn’t have made such a delicious pie.”

The Wife, softening, wears a little smile.

The Husband (sensing victory): “Plus you just need to get used to thefact that you’re living with boys.”

The Wife: “Did the other ‘boys’ get some, too?”

The Husband: “Well, no, but I’m just saying. We eat big.”

To the Husband’s credit, he did go out and purchase the Wife a dozen roses over the weekend, and this was before the dessert fest. Clearly he is a man of passion.

That and he just really likes his pie.

*Afternoon update: I’ve posted the recipe on my cooking blog. Enjoy!

Ok, embarrassing to admit – but in my house that would be me eating a “large” slice and my husband wondering where it went and if I shared with the kids!

He has no sweet tooth – which to me is both a blessing and a curse!

I’d like that recipe too! I just got my husband hooked on a new recipe for sweet potato pie. If the cook is going to miss enjoying her own creation it does help that it is because the pie is so well loved by her family!

Like Tracy said, usually it’s me guilty of eating more than my share of the treats! The interchange sounds quite familiar. 🙂

I see I’m not alone in looking for that recipe–yum! Abigail, I’d love a good recipe for sweet potato pie, too, especially if it spells out sweet potato in cups or pounds (vs. 1 medium…).

Um, isn’t he like a cute lawyer or something? You guys are so romantic – pie and roses, true love!

Sweet story. I love that I can picture it so well, having met you both.

I can see this happening in my house. Except for the roses. But he does paint.

Can’t wait to try the recipe. Better yet, why don’t you make another one and I’ll drop by for a piece before The Husband comes home from work? I’ll bring a jug of half & half for your coffee.
