I watched a couple of my friend’s children this afternoon while she took all of the older kids to Feed My Starving Children.
Her two-year-old little man was most upset when his momma left him, and so I asked if he would like to watch Curious George while I fixed lunch.
Indeed he would. Not only that, but he was quickly joined by his older brother and my two girls. The television has that effect on these kids. It’s not on all that often, so when it is…they all come running.
Since it was ten minutes to the hour, Curious George was not quite on yet. I noticed my friend’s 4-year-old peering confusedly at the screen, where instead of a little brown monkey there was that new series known as “WordWorld”.
“Is this Curious George?” he asked the group.
4-year-old Felicity responded helpfully, “No, this is Whirled Word…um…Whorled Wood…” She stopped, recognized her limitations, and at that point she just switched gears. “Curious George is on afterwards.”
How I love these 4-year-olds! You never know which words they’re gonna tackle, and which words they simply….can’t.
