Checking in briefly to thank you for checking up on us! We are healthy and well and are not taking anything for granted.
Ever.
At least, I am trying very hard not to.
Almost everyone I’ve talked to from the Cities has been touched in some way by the bridge collapse. For us, it was our neighbor’s co-worker Sherry Engebretsen, who was one of the four confirmed dead. May she and all the others rest in peace.
As always, there are stories of great heroism and faith rising up out of this tragedy. Two young medical students no sooner see the news unfold on the television then they are in their car and driving over. Another man raced down from his high-rise apartment overlooking the river and, seeing a woman lying face-down and bloodied next to her vehicle, rounded up several men and a piece of scrap plywood. Using it as a makeshift gurney, they transported the injured woman away from the bridge to safety.
My favorite story came from a woman who’d been out jogging when the bridge went down. (She’d just passed under it and was about 200 yards away.) As she stood there in the midst of all the other shell-shocked onlookers, she called out, “Does anyone want to pray for the people on the bridge?”
They “looked at me like I was nuts,” she said, but then another young woman responded, “Yeah, I want to pray with you.” That was all it took. About 15 others then joined in, holding hands and intercessing.
Is “intercessing” a word, even?
It doesn’t matter. Just keep on doing it.
And hug up your kids and love your husband.
(having helped herself to the bag of them in the first place)
Have a blessed weekend, everyone! As my mum is often fond of saying, “Just keep looking up and trust ‘til you bust!”

Margaret,
we are “intercessing” here in Iowa for you hearty Minnesotans.
I love the juxtaposition of your beautiful mother (seated very properly in her dress and hosiery with the beautiful flowers in the background)next to Camille in her diaper! That is precious, precious!

Your stories of the bridge victims were great. My husband and kids were at Komo Zoo that day and were on the bridge just south of that….really makes me thankful and I don’t even know the word for it! One of the people missing is pregnant and had her 2 year old daughter with her…praying for her devastated husband. So glad you are home and safe, dh too!

Glad you are all safe. I just love “trust ’til you bust”. Think that’s going to be one of my new phrases!

I thought about you when I heard the news, even though I knew you were safe. All of my family lives up there and travels over that bridge all the time. My brother would have been on the bridge at that time that night, but for some reason had the night off of work. Thanks for sharing your stories. Very touching.

Oh, Margaret, what moving stories. You are right–we mustn’t take anything for granted. I have been very moved by all the posts you’ve written on this subject lately. (Still thinking about those married couples on the helicopter.)

wow. I hand’t heard ANY of those stories, not about the jogger, about the plywood, etc. What is your source ? I’ve just been listening to the local stations (KSTP, KMSP, KARE, WCCO)
