Hot off the Press

July 7, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Minnesota Me, My Writing Elsewhere, Reviews 15 Comments

Doesn’t this little face beat out any you’d find on the tabloids?

The latest issue of Family Foundations magazine has hit the stands!

Well, it’s in your mailbox anyway, if you’re a subscriber.

And if you’re not, why aren’t you? : )

The Couple-to-Couple League does very good work in a profoundly wounded world, and is one of my favorite Pro Life organizations.

The July/August issue deals with the theme of discerning one’s family size and of being “ready for another”. Karen did an awesome piece entitled “The Little Way of a Little Family”; Christi of Mum2Twelve contributed “How Do You Parent 12 Kids (One at a Time)”; and I wrote a column on being a mother of “only” five. (I know you understand this sentiment!)

My heart swelled to read these words by Karen:

“By Catholic standards, we are certainly a little family, due to our late start and our losses. And while having a small family has brought certain heartaches, perhaps our losses have also helped us appreciate more fully what is unique in each individual child. And, perhaps, they’ve helped us to see that every child (born to us or not) is an eternal blessings.”

Amen to that.

Borrow a copy of this magazine if you must.

Subscribing would be better. ; )

I didn’t know you wrote for magazines! (At least I don’t think I did.) Congratulations, anyway.

OOooh, I need to read this. I lately have been feeling somewhat, um, shall we say, less-blessed/inadequate/inferior to my other catholic friends who are on their 4th and 5th babies (or more) and we are not able to conceive/carry to term a third. We are still young, and I am not without hope for a larger family, but I compare myself so much to these others and so desperately want more!! Not for my own sake, as you know…. oh Jesus of the Little Way, help me!!
    I will be subscribing!

Hey Margaret – when I read your article I did not realize that the author, Margaret of Minnesota was the same Margaret that wrote Minnesota Mom since they referred to your blog as patentsgirl… I was still wondering if they got the URL wrong until I glanced up at the actual URL for your blog and saw…
    http://www.patentsgirl.blogspot.com

    a DUH moment…

Love the family picture in the magazine (Such pretty pink dresses!) and you look pretty young yourself.

I have been a proud subscriber ever since Helen (Castle of the Immaculate) bought me my first subscription about 12 years ago!

Any publication with both you and Karen in it would have my vote anyway!

I saw your lovely family photo in there — Milo alerted me to it by shouting, “I see Father Duf-a-ner in this magazine!”

Yes, it was quite an exciting issue this month. I was just thrilled to see you, Karen, and Christi- all people I ‘know’ via this crazy but lovely world of blogging. And I LOVE family pictures of all sizes. It just warms my heart.
It’s so interesting to hear these different ‘open to life’ perspectives that you just don’t hear in the outside world. It’s comforting. Most people think we’re crazy for having another, and I’m thinking, “It’s only our 4th!”
I don’t know where I’m going with this…just saying that I agree that Family Foundations is a great publication. And especially great when our very own Minnesota Mom graces the pages with her writing!!

Oh, Margaret, you brought tears to my eyes! It’s indeed a privilege to share the pages of any magazine with you and Christi and the other wonderful families who contributed to that issue. Your essay was *wonderful*!

It’s been my favorite magazine for years now, and I’m enjoying it even more since I “know” some of the writers. Very good articles, Karen, Christi, and Margaret!
